So far I notice no difference between this mic and the other ones Ive been using for the past few years on other rock band games. I was hoping for better pick up, but oh well.

Big improvements in the quality over past generation mikes. First thing I notice was the USB jack was gold plated. During game play the mike works really well. I did a side by side comparison with my RB3 Mike and I am glad I bought the RB4 Mike. It doesnt seem to distort. Sometimes with the older Mikes, when you sing with any degree of passion, the sheer volume of your voice can cause the Mike to not register your voice in microsecond intervals. I am not having this issue with the RB4 Mike, and my scores are reflecting this change too. The one draw back is playing percussion (i.e. tambourine, clapping, cow bell etc.) youll have to be a tad more aggressive or use the controller (as Ive learned to do.)

Works great. This is my 3rd microphone (need two and the original one was destroyed by kids). Now no one can complain that the microphone isnt picking them up!

While this microphone was a lot better than the cheap microphone we purchased when we first got Rock Band 4, it still isnt nearly as good as the Rock Band microphone that was used with the original version of Rock Band. You cant hit it against your palm to activate overdrive, which I find quite inconvenient. You still have to hit the pad in the upper middle of the controller, or make some stupid/loud noise into the microphone to activate Overdrive. Why cant us PS4 users have an awesome microphone like X-Box users? Their microphone has everything you could POSSIBLY need on the microphone, including all the buttons you need to select songs and move through options and stuff like that. So in conclusion, while I dont think this microphone is very good when compared to what X Box users have and what we had on older versions, this microphone is probably the best option of what is currently available. Sad but true.

Volume is dramatically cut; you have to be a lot louder for the mic to hear your voice

Captures my voice and removes other sound much better than the mic that came with the game package we bought. The sound is really nice and it is easy to get the clapping/tambourine/cowbell/etc. parts to register, again much better than the original mic from the package.
