I tested this M.2 adapter with a Samsung SSD 980 PRO. Firstly, the device cover wouldnt close when the ssd was plugged in. It needs to be held on with tape. Then, to my dismay the USB A cable is USB 3.0 speed. The second cable, which is USB-c to USB-c is around 10 Gb/min faster. Perhaps I can buy an separate USB A 3.0 cable that will work at that speed. Im not going to return it, but someone considering this might consider shopping around to see if there is a better one.

Out of all my NVME enclosures, the ASUS feels good in hand with beveled corners, is the biggest and looks the best with its futuristic design with a good looking, modest RGB logo. My ADATA enclosure is also well built but with much more RGB and smaller - a close second. Read & write speeds average a little over 1GBps which is expected even with a fast SSD drive installed. Nice extras included the 2 sturdy cables (C to C and C to A), a rubber like drop protection outer sleeve and a handy velcro strap with plastic clip (although I probably wouldnt let it hang freely outside a bag in fear of losing valuable data.) NOTE: Many people complain about it not closing, but it does just fine. You need to slide your NVME SSD drive into the center slot of the screw before screwing it down. The screw is a small flat head screwdriver, not philips. You should also take off all stickers of the SSD drive too so that the heat dissipating silicone pad touches the memory controller. Its one of the pricier ones at $55, however it is probably one of the nicer ones. Sacrifice 8-9 cups of Starbucks and you can get one.

My only complaint is that this product is about $20 more expensive than similar items, BUT it great and works as advertised. RGB is a plus if you like that sort of thing

Does exactly what it needs to, I bought it on sale which is what I would recommend you do. Its got all the good gamery aspects to it, and its nice thats its portable and comes with a little hook thing. One thing though is that once I have my drive in there, I cant really close it well? Maybe Im doing it wrong, but it seems like other reviews are pointing out the troubles with closing the thing.

I was searching for a fast way to fix my Windows install in the case of a Disk Drive failure, call me lazy but I wanted to clone my disk drive instead of the time and patience needed to reinstall all of my files and programs as well as my passwords, etc. Call me lazy but this is my reason for purchasing this product, after reviewing other similar products I chose the ASUS ROG STRIX Arion Aluminum Alloy M.2 NVMe SSD External Portable Enclosure Case Adapter, not for the RGB lighting but for the adaptability of M Key/B+M Key M.2 NVMe SSDs. I dread the need to have to return a product and need to address a problem I had with it. After installing the 970 EVO Plus SSD 1TB - M.2 NVMe Drive the cover wouldnt close because the mounting screw kept the cover from locking into the closed position. Pro: My test speed with Crystal Disk Mark were fast for an external USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C Adapter, see my results in the pic. Con: SSD mounting screw is too tall!!! After installing my Samsung (MZ-V7S1T0B/AM) 970 EVO Plus SSD 1TB - M.2 NVMe Interface Internal Solid State Drive with the included mounting screw, the cover would not close enough to lock itself in the closed position on the end where the SSD mounting screw was located. After inspecting the inside of the cover I noticed that the top of the mounting screw was interfering with the cover plate. See the pic and notice where the screw head had scratched the aluminum coating on the cover. I had to use a metal file on the top of the mounting screw to shorten it enough to get the cover to lock itself securely into place.

+Works great on PC…>500mb/s speed. - it DOES NOT WORK as storage on TVs, receivers etc. (tested on LG OLEDS and Denon/Onkyo receivers). I have other adapters that do work on those (sabre something…) - You cant close the enclosure if using M2s with heatsink such as the 2TB WD black I got. It still works if you dont need to close and secure the lid.

Reasonably priced, extremely quality built, easy install of drive. I also own an ORICO housing which is not weatherproof but much faster transfer speeds. This unit averages about 900 read speed and 800 write where the ORICO runs about 2500 both read and write but at a $100 price difference. The ASUS is still more than fast enough for most uses and I am using this for my drone photography and videography. Highly recommend.

This enclosure is for a drive specific to one set of purposes: long-term document storage, access and portability. It holds a WD SN570 M.2 SSD Being a Blue drive means its not built for speed, so if thats what your benchmarking this for, look elsewhere. Dont blame the controller... I have a 2TB WD Green drive thats 8+ years old. I expect this drive in this enclosure will go at least 5. Im betting on longer. Since everything useful is USB 3.1/3.2 or higher nowadays, this enclosure checks that off the list as well. As far as portability is concerned, its as easy to move around as any type-C device can be. No more needing dongles for wayward co-workers and friends. Whichever storage point suits your needs, this enclosure is worth the expense.

As above, plus when plugged in, the colors cycle the the whole rainbow. It’s tough as nails and a great way to add an SSD MVMe drive for additional storage! Great product!
