I was a little worried based on other reviews, especially concerning the comments about the screw inside for the SSD. They complained that the screw sticks up when the drive is installed, preventing the cover from closing. This is not true! If you read the installation instructions, you will note there is a slot on the screw that the top edge of the SSD is supposed to go into. You are not supposed to place the screw on top of the SSD! If you take a moment to look at the instructions, there is no problem at all. My Samsung 980 Pro fits perfectly inside and the performance is right on. I routinely see the rated 10Gbs performance via my USB-C4/TB4 data ports. The drive will get warm but not alarmingly so. I love that the enclosures lights sync with my ASUS Aura system!

+Works great on PC…>500mb/s speed. - it DOES NOT WORK as storage on TVs, receivers etc. (tested on LG OLEDS and Denon/Onkyo receivers). I have other adapters that do work on those (sabre something…) - You cant close the enclosure if using M2s with heatsink such as the 2TB WD black I got. It still works if you dont need to close and secure the lid.

I have several of these connected individually to all of my current gen game machines: PS5 and Xbox Series X. They have worked without issue thus far. Performance is in line with enclosure specs. I also bought one for my pc to use as a Vbox system drive. This is where I encountered a problem that has been around for a very long time and there are only a few articles about it on the net. Read below as there is no fix for this problem for many years. Windows reads this drives hidden Unique ID and uses it in assigning resources to this drive. It turns out there are two of these Unique IDs and many manufacturers of enclosures are using the same second hidden one which ends up being the same string: 5000000000000001 This causes an error in windows and one or more drives with this same Unique ID may not function when plugged in at the same time. I have a WD T7 that cant be used with this along with a WD Mybook drive that also conflicts. There is no recourse but to only use one enclosure that has this same Unique ID and unplug the rest. This is a Windows problem as far as I know, and maybe other OSs dont have this issue, but its a long standing issue. If you dont expect this issue, I have had good results with several of these enclosures in scenarios that will never encounter this issue (mostly because Im aware of it, and now you too!) Let Microsoft know through voluminous reports and maybe they can finally fix this. The full article will be found searching the following: Disk <n> has the same disk identifiers as one or more disks connected to the system

Had a cheaper one that after 3-5 minutes would overheat and stop working until it cooled off. Bought this one after and I can leave it connected and in use for movies, data transfer, etc. for hours. It doesnt get hot to the touch and transfer rates are quick, depending on the SSD you use.

This enclosure did not work for me out the box. I could not see it in disk manager or anything. After troubleshooting, I discovered the problem was the drive was formatted as a GPT disk. This was perplexing as I have other adapters that work with both MBT or GPT drives. Once the Crucial P5 drive was converted to a MBT disk (had to use a different enclosure to access it in disk manager to accomplish this) it worked great. Does not work with GPT drives! Other than that, it is great. It is built well, has good cooling, and super fast.

Does exactly what it needs to, I bought it on sale which is what I would recommend you do. Its got all the good gamery aspects to it, and its nice thats its portable and comes with a little hook thing. One thing though is that once I have my drive in there, I cant really close it well? Maybe Im doing it wrong, but it seems like other reviews are pointing out the troubles with closing the thing.

ASUS ROG strix is best enclosure out there, especially on the thermal pad!

I installed a Kingston NV1 SNVS/250G drive in this enclosure and I get around 700 mbps when copying from my WD Black SN850 1TB. Although speedy, I *think* I should be getting a little above that, even when accounting for USB protocol overhead. I mainly use it to ferry large files to and from my NAS, but I havent fully tested it yet. It gets slightly warm during use, but it keeps the drive working well within spec. I like that it integrates with Asus Aura (probably the main reason I bought this, after the performance). It has a few lights but nothing too fancy. You control the lighting with Armoury Crate, which a bloated mess of an app, but its better to have one bloated mess rather than several. Overall, Im quite happy with my purchase and would highly recommend if you are pursuing high transfer speeds and have other Asus Aura enabled devices.

So many of the reviews complain about the screw being too long, and the cover wont close. Read the manual, folks! Theres a slot in the side of the screw - THAT is where it engages the memory card. See the attached pictures - one shows the slot in the screw, the other shows a proper installation. Something thats NOT in the manual - if the device rattles when fully assembled, its because the included thermal pads are not thick enough to contact the memory card. I had to buy thicker pads, but they work great and this is one of the only such enclosures that permits thermal pads to be used. UPDATE: These beauties work fine for 4TB and 8TB SSD capacities! I really like these enclosures, although since I dont use the ASUS software to control the lighting effects they simply cycle through the colors of the rainbow. Hey ASUS, you could bring these even closer to metaphysical perfection if you made the lighting color depend upon the temperature of the SSD. Indicate the temperature range from cool to hot by showing us a color range from blue to red, thereby making the lighting functional - rather than merely decorative.
