It also replaces the manufacturer cover that your PlayStation 5 comes with. I do not suggest tossing the manufacturer cover away simply because you replaced it. However, you do you. It does have the bottom side with thermal tape that will attach to the SSD memory card. Unless you want to go cheaper and a more typical design of a thermal. I will only say keep in mind that this particular item was made specifically for the PlayStation 5.
