I have it retract my negative review. At 1st it didn’t heat up. Electrician came back & fixed.Run down: The install was not easy when it comes to electrical, using ohm meter etc. The Physical install of wires and the pads are a breeze. Use a good tile person for that. Lesson learned: use a GC to avoid he said he said blame if it doesnt work. Watch sal’s YouTube video! Also, MAKE sure you check everything with ohm meter. I did EVERYthing to a T so I KNEW something was wrong with the thermostat when it failed. Electrician came back, re-wired the box & it now works. This isn’t supposed to heat the room but to me it does. Warm tile floors make me want to do angels like I’m in the snow. It’s amazing & a life changer. I love these floors. The thermostat is USER friendly. Wish more people knew how to install in SF Bay Area but overall I say this is a good buy but the installation people are key. GET PROS to do this.

I used the ditra-heat for my bathroom of about 50 square feet. The ditra system is easy to work with. However, one major drawback is the cheaply made thermostat. At the final step of installing the thermostat one of the terminal clamping screws stripped on the load side. I was rather surprised since I was using a manual screwdriver and I am used to screwing terminals on outlets and switches and never had one strip out. It should be noted that having a strong grip on the terminal screw is vital for a secure connection. Loosening of a terminal screw can cause sparking and could be a potential fire hazard. More disappointing was Schluters response when I requested a warranty replacement. Not covered, they dont consider this a manufacturing defect. Thus my rating of 2 stars for value ( now I need to buy another thermostat).

I am a DIY homeowner who installed this under a new tile floor. I found the installation to be rather straight forward. Hooked up the thermostat and everything worked. Warm floors are nice.

My husband installed this in our bathroom underneath our new waterproof flooring he installed. I didnt really think it was necessary. I am glad he didnt listen to me! It is so nice to walk into the bathroom and fill the warm floor! Works wonderfully! The programmable thermostat is so easy to set up, so you when you know you do not need to have the floor warming (while you are at work) it is off! Love it!

Not too tricky to install before you put your floor down. It’s a little sluggish heating up but the touch screen is intuitive and easy to read.

The Ditra system is really pricey (although the price on Amazon was excellent, Home Depot wants almost 50 % more money for exactly the same set), but Schluter, called Schlüter in Germany, where they have had a stellar reputation for years, is the perfect example of a German quality product: sturdy material, brilliant engineering, precise execution and sophisticated function (not to mention slightly over-abundant product information…). The price as a set, by the way, is still much cheaper than buying the components individually. The thermostat alone in the programmable touchscreen version is over $200! My contractor was very favorably impressed by the system, which he did not know, and said there is no comparison with some flimsy alternatives available on the market, Be aware, though, that the system will not cover the whole surface of a very large bathroom. Mine is just a bit over 90 sqft, and after deducting the footprint of the tub, shower, toilet bowl and vanity + a stripe roughly 8” wide along the walls, it covered what was left almost exactly. Please take into account, by the way, that if you lay tiles over the whole surface, as one usually does, you will need additional mats without wiring to achieve a consistent height. So you will have to buy some extra mat material (which is not cheap for what it is) on Amazon, eBay, or at a DIY store that carries the product (be aware that it must be Ditra Heat; the normal Ditra decoupling membrane is cheaper, but thinner).

I had the heating system installed with ceramic tile and it works wonderfully and I couldn’t be happier right now. Of course, it has only been on for about a week. Ask me after a year or five. The thermostat is relatively easy to set up although some of the menus are awkward.

This is a complete kit for the square footage needed. Everything is included except for an electrical box and separate conduits for the floor sensor and floor heat leed wires. The step by step directions were easy to follow and clear. Note: there is an extra floor sensor included in the thermostat box that is for future use if needed. I will use this product again.

Due to the bit of bounce the Ditra mat has, it unfortunately causes some tiles to crack. I recommend using larger or thicker tiles for this product. Important detail.
