This drive is more like a Carp than a Barracuda. Best suited for storage not an OS in a laptop. After a year in service I thought it was time to swap out my 2tb WD blue. The seagate clone keeps me waiting much longer than expected. No xfer data software stats to show but I know this drive is slow. Going to put my WD back and consider the Seagate to be a backup. Buying another WD now just like the good old one. I cant afford a 2tb ssd at this time.

In light of the non-reporting of SMR drives from hard drive makers, its becoming more and more apparent as to why they were not more transparent about the technology. Its because SMR or Shingled Magnetic Recording sucks. It is buggy, slow, and causes a lot of read/write errors where Windows was constantly running check/repair disk. I only expect this kind of hard drive behavior from an old and tired hard drive, not a new one out of the box. Do yourself a favor and dont buy this hard drive, or any of the latest SMR hard drives that Seagate, Western Digital, or Toshiba are currently releasing. Do some research, and buy certified non SMR or buy from older tech inventory. No matter what they say or what you hear, no matter what your intended plan of use is, save yourself the frustration and dont buy this or any other SMR hard drive. As for this particular hard drive, Ive nothing but buyers remorse for it. I cannot return it, because Ive had it too long, and I really cant trust it. I was using it as a clone drive to support multiple computers, and it sucked at doing that job. So I put in a laptop to be a system drive, it sucked at doing that too. Windows installation takes a long time to complete, sometimes driver installs would take a time to install, and then writing anything at all just takes a long time. Reading isnt bad, but then some document files get corrupt or Checkdisk goes ape and wants to repair the drive. I had a very large spreadsheet that Excel reported was corrupt and needed repairs. When Excel finally opened the dang file, several sheets were missing from the spreadsheet altogether. So now this drive is unreliable, easily corruptible, and untrustworthy. Researching about SMR technology led me to the conclusion that SMR tech just isnt a good idea.

My old PS4 Pro 1TB HDD failed on me so I replaced it with this one. It isnt fast as as a SSD or SSHD, but it is slightly faster or at least just as good compared to the original PS4 Pro HDD when it was working fine.

Traded a subwoofer for a PS4 with a guy from Dubuque, Iowa. Being a trade with a guy from Dubuque, Iowa, the PS4 was predictably not in the condition he stated it was. I reformatted it or whatever its called on those Sony things and it worked but had in game stutters. Then it quit again. I replaced the hard disk with this one (500GB-<1TB). It worked mint. Then I sold the PS4 for a profit on eBay because I have uncontainable levels of swag. This hard drive is freakin minty for your dusty old PS4. Or your laptop or whatever. And it spins. Spinny spin magnets weeeeee data TECHNOLOGY you know?

This product was really great than what I expected. I was getting worried that I was running out of space in my gaming laptop, but I saw a video where u can add this to your laptop. Great product for GB capacity. But the price is little to much, I get it that its smaller for a 3.5 inch. But for a 2.5 inch is more expensive because it small. But overall great to buy!

It works as spec-ed and I am just using it for back up. But I had forgotten just how painful working on a 5400 rpm drive could be. Next time I will spring for 7200 rpm.
