The silicon power drive is rugged and easy to use. Less than 4 minutes after I retrieved it from my mailbox I was running the backup I have not yet been able to complete. I have 3 Seagate drives, which have been easy to use as back-up drives, but when I suffered a network attack last year and my hard drive was corrupted, I was unable to restore because Seagate uses its own operating system which was not available on my corrupted drive. so even with 3, yes 3! full back-ups, I lost all my data. I have a huge (3TB) multi-platform drive from Seagate which I have not been able to use because the software which makes it usable with windows is on the corrupted drive. I have a freeagent drive which had been my back up, but it is near full and I have not yet given up on retrieving my data which is not corrupted, just needs Seagate software to access. Long story sort, despite having several drives I have not been able to do a full backup since setting up my machine. I knew I needed another drive and it was nt going to be from seagate. This looked like a solid choice, had good reviews and so I decided to give it a try. Unlike seagate, Silicon power uses the native software: so far so good ;) all it took for me to start my back up was to remove the usb cable from where it is stored on the drive, plug it in and launch windows back-up. Despite doing a full back up of a large drive with plenty of data, pictures, music... In 15 minutes I was done, thanks to the availability of usb3. While I have not yet dropped it of a cliff, the drive military grade protection was tested a bit before I even opened it. My mail lady left it out in pouring rain. In fact, one of the reasons that I bought this drive was its water resistance, along with other characteristics which bring it to military standards (shock-proof, solid construction) It does not seem to have been adversely effected by the weather and so far is performing just fine. I may be sorry I set this up as my back up drive as it really is a very portable size, and the construction makes it perfect for travel. However I ultimately wind up using it, so far it seems like it was a good choice: solid, compact, resistant to the elements and more, reasonably priced and easy to use. Id buy another one, and I very well may.

Very nice. I was afraid there would be a humming noise but i didnt notice (unless you literally press your ear on it) I was also suspicious of it not getting warm while playing a game off of it but fortunately the answers other gave about it not getting hot were correct. It does not even get warm. I usually place it on my leg and I cant tell it is there. :) The cord fits into the notches on the sides that are removable. While they can come out without much effort they do stay in there just fine. I just just pull the cord out while gently pressing the notch and have never had a problem. I have not tested the shock proof water proof part though...and I am not going to XD

I bought this HD because it claims to be resistant and I had very bad experiences in the past with HD that would go bad by just shaking them too hard or any simple movement. I have not confirmed its water resistance or its shock resistance. 10 days after purchase I was using the HD (moving some files to it so I could take them to work next day for a meeting), all good, then I turned off the computer and unplugged it. 30 mins later I plug it and it prompts me to format in order to be able to use it. I lost all my files just like that. It did not fall, got wet, I was not even touched. This is horrible.

»Ive been using this drive at work and home and am very happy with its performance and design. I have the 1TB model which when formatted in Windows using NTFS ended up being 932GBs. »The outer casing consists of hard plastic and the green silicone material you can see in the photos. The green silicone is actually what is surrounding the hard drive inside, protecting it from drops and is how the suspension system works. The green silicone also has a slot that goes all the way around which is used to hold onto the included USB 3.0 cable using 2 clips. The 2 plastic pieces simply screw into each other on each side using 4 screws. The USB port has a flap in the silicone to keep it closed and free of dust when not in use. There are also 2 openings on the bottom plastic part where 2 green strips come through and provide grip on whatever surface you put it on, preventing slips. Simple and effective design for protection, grip and convenience. »There is no external powered needed for this, power it taken from the USB port on whatever device you are using it with »Copying to and from the drive was speedy and I the speeds I received when running a speed test were about what I expected for a traditional hard drive over USB 3.0. I attached a photo of my results which were 120.0MB read and 115.8MB write for sequential writes. Im not sure if Silicon Power wanted me to do this, but I did it anyways, I unscrewed the 4 screws to see what drive was inside. I know Silicon Power does not manufacture hard drives like Western Digital and Seagate do. I was hoping to find a brand name from one of the very few large drive manufacturers and I am happy to report I did. Inside is a 1TB standard Seagate laptop drive. Not some cheap white label drive, a quality brand drive. Good choice. »I have not tested the ability to survive a drop because I am actually using this on a daily basis so I am being slightly cautious. I am however throwing it into a backpack filled with things and plopping it down on a desk multiple times a day, you dont want to treat any standard hard drive with moving parts too terribly, but so far so good, no problems with performance or any strange issues. »Overall this has been a great drive for me and I recommend it to anyone looking for a more durable external drive to take on the go, if anything changes I will update this review in the future. *I received this product at a discount in exchange for an honest review, I hope this review was helpful.

I travel for work and cant get myself to break down and get a new laptop, so I shove everything on this drive to save myself from having to watch the eternal spinny wheel of death because my laptop was too full. So far, so good. It arrived quickly (thanks Prime!), works as expected, is lightweight and has that convenient cord-tuck channel so I can always easily find the cable and get connected. Im still freaking out about how small these things are. Being in the music business, I go waaaay back with hard drives and remember when they were the size of a compact car, and cost nearly as much, so maybe Im easily pleased, but still, works great with both of my Macs (older laptop and newer desktop).

I could put four of these hard drives inside the one I bought 8 years ago. It doesnt work any better than the old ones but it is so much smaller and if it ever has to travel the armor will keep it safe from harm. Also, my old WD required a separate power plug in addition to the USB plug. These smaller modern models get their power thru the USB plug, which is very convenient.

I am very accident prone and so is the rest of my family. I have another external hard drive that I bought years ago, but with the many times that I have dropped it, or it getting pushed off the counter, it is falling apart. I bought this one hoping it will stay intact through our rough lifestyles and it has proven itself already! We have dropped it a few times already, from a low height, and it has held up! Great investment since I do not want to loose my thousands of pictures!

So i was looking to back up my computer one day to reset and went to back up on my hard drive and guess what hard drive was broken and appeared to be dropped. Boom all that data just gone. I wasnt going to let that happen again so i was looking for a really tuff and rugged hardrive. Something that could take a beating and be some what water resistant . This was buy have the best thing i was looking for at the best price i could find. I use macbook pros and this hard drive was very easy to set up and start backing up files. A60: - Its Fast! - Rugged design, hard plastic casing with soft corner to absorb impact on drop. - Water resistance, which mean splash proof. I did not submerge it in water for this test. - I have dropped this a few times and my child has gotten a hold of it and still works great I use it about every 2 weeks without any wrinkles.

I tried to download several video games using this external hard drive but gives me an error. It says it cannot differentiate between upper and lower case, I have no idea what this means. I am now using it to back up my computer and that is working excellent like it should. It also holds pictures. The only thing that I have had trouble with is trying to download video games which is the reason I purchased this. Great product if you are using it for a back up hard drive.
