I am a huge fan of Dans Brand of sharpening stones. However, for whatever reason, I have had hit-and-miss luck with the hard graded stones that Dan puts out. Ive had 3 or 4 of them, in varying sizes. One was very good, but the others were what I would consider sub-standard, and contained flaws such as large pores and significant variation in stone texture and porosity (and presumably, hardness) in the same stone. I realize its a natural product and therefore not perfect, but I expected a little more quality control than that. As for his other stones, I recommend them wholeheartedly..and his house-brand of honing oil is excellent!

Great sharpening stone

Following my Dans Soft Ark review, basically the same. Straight razor edge refinement and it does just that well, in my opinion. Once again, came very flat and non broken. Great stone!

The stone whets carbon steel very nicely. I like the handsome little case too. Very nice!

This is just one of those purchases that I put off for too many years, while trying alternatives that never worked out just right. For all that time, I have been sharpening my knives on a Smiths soft Arkansas stone permanently mounted to a cedar slab with a cedar cover, then stropping them on an old wide leather belt impregnated with razor stropping compound. I am very satisfied with the quality of this stone, and with the fact that it is NOT permanently affixed to the lower part of the wooden box. It permits me to hone and dress the edges of my knifes without too much grinding of material. Very pleased.

Great Stone. Pick one up and you wont be disappointed.

Love this stone. Use it for the final step of a three phase sharpening process for my woodworking chisels.
