> 3 dayI bought this drive with the expectation that it would be rugged and be able to sustain rough handling of the drive. But I must say I am disappointed with the build quality of this drive. Not only is this not a specially built drive that is inherently rugged, the drive itself is a normal regular 2.5 HDD enclosed by a hard shell SATA enclosure with 6 silicone bumpers on the corners. This is like comparing an iPhone that is wrapped in a hard plastic case and then calling it military grade armor. Although the silicone bumpers may provide some level of protection against accidental drops while the drive is off, this is unlikely to have any benefit when the drive is actively writing data. Furthermore, the way that the USB cable is carried for this product can significantly be improved. The way it works right now is that you have to unplug the cable each time you are done with the drive and then wrap it around the silicone bumpers of the drive enclosure. As you can see in the product image, it is not actually a very good grip and it leaves the two USB A plugs dangling around at the ends. Almost half of the time in my backpack the cable falls off the sides and end up scratching the case of the drive (which is no big deal, but merely an inconvenience). What is a big deal, however, is the way that the plugs are designed. Because both ends of the connector are the large, regular A connectors, the connections where the connectors meet can be exposed to more stress due to the connector size. This drive, in particular, does not seem to do a very good job in soldering these connections, which leads to loose connections over time. Even if the drives were military tested, the connectors themselves are good reasons why this drive is prone to premature failure. For the drive I have purchased, the drive disconnects and reconnects every time the USB cable is lightly touched. The connection is so fragile so that even moving the laptop so slightly can cause enough disturbance to the USB cable to cause a write operation to fail due to the interruption of the USB link. Support, which was done over email, was pretty useless with this issue. All I was told was what I already know (the connector being loose), and that I needed to order a new enclosure for the drive (since the drive itself is removable.) What I do not understand is why I would purchase another faulty enclosure that not only does not protect the drive inside but also one that is prone to have faulty connectors? I would go ahead and save the money and find something more reputable that you can get support for readily if you encounter any problems. For the price that you are paying for this drive, you could probably get something better without the claimed protections and still have better protections overall than this drive.

> 3 dayI purchased this to back up pictures, songs, etc from my MAC computer. It arrived earlier than expected. I like it because it is compact and easy to use. I like the way the connecting cable is stored on the unit itself. It is light weight and fits in the palm of my hand. I got the green one so I could see it easier among my clutter in my desk drawer. It has rubber strips on the back to prevent it from sliding around on your desk while you are transferring files. It is waterproof and you have to open the silicone cover to insert the connecting cable. I did my first transfer of over 5k of songs and 5k pictures. It took only a just couple minutes. This is a 2TB storage external hard drive with no moving parts. It is like using a thumb drive. It is so easy to drag and drop the files on to it. It will take me forever to fill 2TB. This is the best external hard drive I have ever had. I dont have to find a power cable to use it and then plug a data transfer cable. It is so easy to use and it is small enough you can take it with you anywhere and transfer data to it. If you are looking for a compact external hard drive, this is the one. It is waterproof, scratch proof, shockproof, so I dont have to panic if one of my grandkids picks it up. It is a good price for the amount of storage and protection you get for the case. jw

Greater than one weekI use a Mac so I had to erase the drive before using. So far no issues. Plug and play. It’s great. I can now store all of my pictures videos and documents in one place.

> 3 dayI wanted an ssd for my ps4 pro & this was recommended luckily I wanted an external SSD... but plugged in cannot read filesystem error (thought the USB specification said its backwards compatible (and you can replace the HDD inside with one no idea why) It may be my fault as I recall my 2TB HDD external needed its own power bricksource maybe an external. SSD does aswell?? It is fast though! Rugged, dust/smoke, resistant 4/5

> 3 dayI have one of these already and I do not remember the hassle I just had to go through to be able to use it. Finally on a review of a different brands hard drive I found instructions someone else posted: Open Disk Utilities. From the View menu, choose Show All Devices. Select WD Elements on the left side of the window. Right click and choose Erase from the pop-up menu. Create a name and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) assuming you have a current vision of OS-X. It will reformat the drive in about a minute. A simple note from the company or in the box as to how to format for a MAC would have been very helpful. I have two other hard drives that have stopped working and my other SP is still in great condition, so if you can figure out how to use it with your MAC it would be worth it.

> 3 dayNeeded another external hard drive for backup purposes. This one fit all requirements. Plugged in and used immediately, no software installation. The case is excellent for travel with shockproof case. USB speed also depends on your device. Definitely recommend!
