This is a true beast. It’s well made, rubberised in part to help it survive if you drop it, (which is what caused the death of my last one ( not this make ) ) …. It’s really quite heavy so might not suit all… but it’s a well made product , as you’d expect with Stanley products… it’s easy to use and easy to read.

I dont want my teenage grandson to grow up being a useless Muppet, so I am putting together a basic tool kit for him. This tape feels good quality and should last a good long time.

You can’t argue with a well-built tool. The blade stretches over a long distance. The tape fits well in the hand, and is designed to take a good beating. The belt clip comes off easily. Make sure you write your name on it.

Does what it says on the tin, cant fault Stanley fat max. Ive bought 3 of these in the past 2 years and normally I got through about 9 or 10 normal tapes a year for work.

Its a good tape and fairly priced as you usually pay well over twenty pounds for this type of tape. So I do recommend it.

This is quite a chunky measure. The main advantage of this is the blade can be held out to about 2M before it snaps flat making measurements across a wall easier. The blade has a separate lock, rather than the auto lock of more recent designs, but gets the job done. The markings are large and easy to read too.

I bought this tape towards the end of July thinking Stanley Fatmax was a sturdy, reliable make (which I probably still do), however between the day l bought it and the day it broke (November) l had used it around half a dozen times. At the time I was measuring a floor for carpet so it wasnt under any undue strain when the tape came detached from the spring. Tried to fix it but the design of the spring makes it impossible. I actually believe this is a one off as I believe Fatmax has a good reputation in tools and would last a great deal longer normally. However my Fatmax is broken hence the lack of stars
