The item pictured is a Starrett 472. The 473 has leaves on two ends which, despite the description, do not lock open. But, the quality is what I expect from Starrett, it meets my needs, and delivery was timely. Expensive, but it covers the real spread of thread sizes and it is nice to use. Each segment retrieves and locks easily.

Despite a review published on July 27, 2012 identifying that the photo and description didnt match the model number, the product being shipped still doesnt match. The #473 (which is clearly indicated) has fewer blades and no locking mechanism, which makes it less desirable and marginally less usable than other higher-end products. It would be nice if the photo and description (including mention of locking capability for blades) was updated so as no to mislead any other customers.

Starrett made a great tool here, Im happy with it and plan to buy the metric version next.

This pitch gauge has more than enough measurements for most peoples needs. Its a great gauge, and if you have to pick only one to own, this is it.

I did my homework before getting a thread gauge. This gauge has the most gauges in it, for one tool, that you will find. It basically has ever thread youll ever run across in it.
