Sort of a call to Christians to really walk that walk instead of talking the talk. Eli embarks on a journey with the last copy of the Bible and he goes by faith. This man does everything to protect the Bible from enemies who want to use the Bible for evil (twist it for themselves and control the peoples knowledge). With only faith to go on, Eli lives for God and whenever failure may present itself, he does not blame God, he realizes his mistake and Gods correction. He fully trusts in God to protect him in this journey. This is an excellent movie of faith and a full trust in God. All while having a great storyline and awesome action scenes with actors of amazing talent. (PS - no, Eli is NOT blind -- watch his eyes and reactions thru the film. He uses his eyes, makes eye contact, he notices details, etc)

Directing, writing, acting, editing and staging are flawless. The story sent in the near future is believable and uncluttered by idiology that so often warps otherwise good films these days. Denzel Washington is at his best!

I never would have thought the Road Movie (Post Apocalypse type) could ever appeal to me, but through the storyline, Denzel Washingtons amazing handling of the character, and mind boggling pneumatically layered surprise ending, with an actual Judeo-Christian theological nuance (without slamming other religions), it was great. Gary Oldman being as weirdly weird as only he can be (extremely good actor) and a fascinating role for Jennifer Beals who plays a low key and very evocative role. If you hate post apocalyptic road films, but could imagine one being good, this one would be worth watching... but i think youd have to watch it with full attention, not while doing photoshop in another window, or doing house chores.... again, mind boggling surprise ending, or so i thought.

All the subtle hints that he is blind. Oh, sorry, spoiler. However, they never really point out that he is blind, except for the Braille Bible. Knew a few folk that werent blind that could read Braille. Also for Christians, his name was Eli. You know, Elijah. If I remember correctly, anytime a strong Prophet would appear, in both the Old and New Testament, folk would say Elijah is reborn. Loved the soundtrack. All the cast were excellent. Even the bad guys second had nuances. Weakest cast member was Mila Kunis. Sorry, but her performance just was terribly weak up against the others. I think this movie was too early for her. Loved seeing Jennifer Beals. Still beautiful and put in a wonderful performance. Excellent movie. Derivative, yes. However, with the cast, the acting and the story arc. Wonderful. 10/10... Watched again and again

I went to see this film expecting Mad Max...but got a thinking mans version of every other post-apoc film Id ever seen. A *lot* of thought went into this film in terms of worldbuilding and other aspects in an effort to make it believable, and worth immersing myself in it. Se it; you wont regret it. And youl find yourself rewinding it saying...Oh YEAH! I missed that, but that...I shoulda seen that coming! :) Great film. Great film.

One of those movies you dont realize whats going on until 3 quarters of the way in and then the ending just solidifies the thought you had 3 quarters in. Ive watched this movie at least a dozen times and just played it to sleep to when I couldnt sleep.

Some people say that this didnt really do anything new for the post-apocalyptic genre. Well, what recent movie has? Most movies are rehashed material old movies with slight twists. This one plays on some great themes - traveling stranger, western shanty towns, etc. Washington, Oldman and even Kunis all deliver as well as could be expected in this type of movie. It has some really well filmed action sequences. I agree that it does use that semi-sepia and tone a little much, but I imagine thats what the world will look like when were nearly extinct anyway, so why nitpick? If you like post-apocalyptic movies, this is definitely worth watching. It wont change the world of movies, but presents a solid viewing. The disc itself is a little disappointing in the special features, but for the right price is a good purchase.

This is very well-made movie. Nothing too slow or too fast, and no hint of sex, whatsoever. Im neither atheist or a Christian. There isnt a book of Eli in Bible. (The Bible contain history of the past, from beginning to end, to put it simply.).Just a title of movie, which just shows the chronicles of Eli. Similar to Riddick, Eli kills when he has to defend himself, and he can be and is ruthless as any other men, only because of that situation he is in. Any one can surmise that Eli is or was a Christian, but did not depart from his belief in the Holy Bible. There are references. Quotes. I feel a sense of grittiness and mood change, but not depressing. I felt I was in it. This movie is very, very, very good to watch.

After seeing this movie twice, I am still amazed at the symbolism and double entendre used to convey thoughts about our waning humanity and disregard for our earth. I highly recommend seeing this movie with friends who enjoy analyzing the meanings implied in the movie. It makes for great discussions about society. While most people focus on the use of the Bible as the object of interest, you can replace it with any other books of knowledge (Koran, Torah, etc.) and the movie loses none of its messages. Turn your attention to the relationships, the moral lessons presented, what can happen when humans are isolated, and more importantly, the order of power when selfish people control our limited resources. This is a treatise on what can happen if we do not pay attention to the signs of our day: our children graduating from high school unable to read, weather changes, iran with weapon grade uranium, wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. If we do not make rapid effective changes in our approach to dealing with each other and our environment, we will sadly leave a world like that depicted in this movie to our children.
