> 24 hourFrom the first page, this is one of the most riveting science fiction works Ive read in a long time. Sounds corny, but I really couldnt stop reading until Id finished. People are involved in a major planet-wide deception and are losing their freedoms. Memories are re-wired repeatedly. Just when the main characters are discovering more of the truth about how theyve been deceived, theyre caught and have their memories wiped/changed. Trusted people turn out to be villains who are robbing this planet and turning it into a wasteland. I cant wait until the next book comes out! :)

> 24 hourInteresting sci-fi. Didnt realize thats what it was when I first started reading it, and when I realized they were people on another planet, not just someone on Earth who had powers, I was kind of skeptical, but kept reading. It was very enjoyable and I liked the pace. Didnt know it was supposed to be a series when I got it (if I did, I dont remember), and am now anxious to get the next one to see what happens to these people. I have always been fond of stories with ordinary people who happen to have extraordinary powers and this delivered.

> 24 hourI loved Lieskes first book Not What She Seems so when I saw this new book I knew I had to try it out too. I am so glad I did because this was such a fun, different, unique, refreshing read. This book has it all, some mystery, some romance, some action, some paranormal, great setting, great characters, I could go on and on. I am so excited to see what happens next with Shayne and Danielle and all their friends!

> 24 hourThis is a good book. The Overtaking is a light, fun read with excellent pacing; I started and finished it in a single day. Young adult books are not my primary reading genre, but Im glad I took the time to read this one. At the beginning of The Overtaking, the Maslonian people are disappearing one by one. The Maslonian Council wants to get to the bottom of it. After his mothers disappearance (in the books opening scene), Shayne joins the Council and is promptly thereafter kidnapped. Then, he is in another world thinking he has had completely different life than the one he actually had. But Shayne is resistant to the new memories, and he discovers he has hidden memories and powers. His powers reveal the thoughts of those around him, and he knows that some of the people around him are lying to him . . . about everything. All the while, theres a growing romantic connection between Shayne and one of his schoolmates, Danielle, who seems to be mixed up in all of this. How did Shane get to this new place with these new memories? What is Danielles involvement? What is happening to the Malsonian people as they disappear? And most importantly, why is someone doing this to Shayne and his people? In my opinion, the best thing about this book is the pacing. My time reading it flew right by, because it was light and never dragged any scene along more than necessary. The characters were fine; perhaps a little one-dimensional, but like I said, it was a light read. The writing was solid for the most part, although there were a number of times (maybe fifteen or so) that I was abruptly thrown out of my suspension of disbelief by some cliche word choices. But Ive spent a lot of time editing novels lately, so maybe thats just me. More people should be reading this book. Not all people, of course, but those who are into young adult, paranormal stuff. Its a good book, and it was well worth my time.

> 24 hourWill you be the next person to be overtaken? Or has it already happened? You may never know. If you read this book you will understand the extra meanings of the above questions. I enjoyed reading The Overtaking and look forward to the next book in the series. I am just starting to read romance novels and will only read ones like Victorine Lieske writes. I prefer books with no swear words and no sex scenes and Victorine delivers that along with a story that builds and draws me in as I read. I like the twists and turns Victorine put into this book, things I would never have thought would happen in a romance novel. There are many creative solutions to problems that come up and unexpected help for the main characters that kept me reading and wondering how things could possibly work out now. With this book Victorine has created characters that are very memorable too me and Im not talking about just the main characters. Even a very minor character, a little girl named Gita stands out in my mind. Victorines words created clear images in my mind as I got into the story. The characters seemed real, the events flowed naturally as the story progressed. If you like romances and some sci-fi/fantasy then you will enjoy The Overtaking. Robert Marda

> 24 hourA wonderful second book from this New York Times Best Selling Author! I wouldnt be surprised if we see this one in the Times spotlight as well before long. I must confess to my initial feeling of confusion during the first couple of chapters and point of view changes. I struggled to grasp who was who and when and where things were happening. But that feeling was quickly overcome as the story grabbed my attention and refused to let go. I thought the story had great pace, terrific and believable plot, realistic and tangible characters, and just enough romance to make me aaww and not enough to make me gaak! I love a good set of power-hungry nemeses. Very dynamic. I personally was concerned when I heard Victorine Lieskes next book was not going to be a Mystery Romance but more of a Sci-fi Romance. Im not usually a big Sci-fi reader. But this book was not overwhelming with alien jargon or lacking in the intrigue I found so enjoyable in Not What She Seems. I was pleasantly surprised all the way around. Those willing to risk trying something a just a little different wont be disappointed. And lastly, I love that the ending could be, just conclusive enough, for those who would like to read only one book in the series and call it quits, and yet is open enough for those of us left pressing the next page button repeatedly on our little Kindles wishing the second installment was already written! I look forward to it with eager fingers.
