At first I was concerned because when I opened the package the odor was overpowering. But I let it air out for a few days in a different part of the house and the strong tanned leather smell toned down. Once I re-packaged it as a gift, it didnt become stinky again. The manufacturer assured me that the smell was so strong from being packaged in plastic so long at the warehouse and it would dissipate (which it did). Its a lovely bag, I bought the conditioning balm these guys make also so hopefully it will be beautiful and useful for years.

About the Leather
We use full-grain Italian cowhide which is the highest quality leather. Over time, full-grain leather looks even better, gets a vintage effect, and develops a beautiful patina from being handled.

Full-grain means that only the top layer of the leather was removed, so every mark and wrinkle that was on the animal is seen on the leather and creates and unique surface formed by the nature.

This leather is hand-dyed using the vegetable tanning method, which utilizes only natural materials and extracts from plants and does not contain any harmful chemicals.
