Its more protective than neoprene, has a zipper pocket on the front that easily holds mouse, pad, cords, plugs, etc. and not only does it have the rubber-like bubbles on the inside to protect your computer, but it also has hard corners to protect the edge if you happen to drop it at an angle (uggg!).
