Works great, dries pretty quickly, and rises up just as needed once steamed.

I set off to create some super-hero costume designs, including fine-lined work (think the black webbing and spider pattern of Spider-Man). When I think of fabric paint, I think of thick, tar-like bands of shiny rubber. After doing some research, I found this as an option. I was afraid it might not work out, but used it on test fabric just to see. It looks AMAZING. I am talking from-the-store-designed-shirt-good. I applied two layers, about 20 minutes apart, then let dry 4 hours like the directions said. WOW. Just make sure you follow the directions. Put cardboard or some other absorbent material between fabric layers because it WILL bleed through. Then enjoy!

This was purchased for a cosplay I wore earlier this month and overall, I think it did a decent job at the task I had for it (which was painting on a black body suit to resemble a characters clothing) but there are a few complaints. So, what are the positives? It performs well as a fabric paint, I havent noticed any of the paint washing off or fading or anything like that, and like the bottle states, it dries pretty soft and flexible! But, there are some things to keep in mind. First of all, this paint is able to dry softly because its very runny and isnt the most opaque of paints. When using it, its an absolute that there is a barrier behind the surface its being put on because it can soak through fabric; I painted it onto a cotton/nylon bodysuit and it basically bled straight through to the other side. Also, if you want a truly opaque color payoff (as in a truly solid white shape with none of the fabrics color showing) with whatever you paint, you have to apply several layers of paint. I think this stuff works best if you want to be able to build up the coverage or use the fabrics color to create a certain effect with the paint. Also, this stuff says matte and compared to the slick version, this does qualify as matte in that it doesnt look wet/shiny in the light and tends to not lay upon the fabric as heavily or allow for it to be as dimensional, but the color glacier is not 100% matte either. It is full of tiny, tiny bits of glitter that kind of give the paint a shimmery effect in some cases (which is probably why its called glacier. It resembles the sparkle of snow). Its not super noticeable, but the glitter is there and can be seen in certain lighting, especially if you do lighter coats of paint (the more layers you apply, the less prominent the glitter is, but a light layer on dark fabric is noticeable). I think for most peoples needs, this paint will do just fine. I personally did not find this particular type of paint to be the End All Be All for my project, since I had very large areas to cover with totally opaque shapes, but I suppose I should have realized that the soft version of the paint would be more runny and light in coverage in order to allow it to dry so soft. I dont fault the paint so much as I fault myself for expecting it to cover solid black fabric perfectly in one go, as if it were thick oil paint on a canvas, while still being super soft and flexible. The price is a little much, but unless youre covering a lot of area in a lot of layers, this bottle should last for several projects! There is a smell to the paint, as well, but its not especially strong or unpleasant (just kind of smells like paint, you know?) and I wouldnt say it would warrant an open window or masks or anything.

I was skeptical about purchasing this to use on a shirt design. Im glad that I did. this product works so well. I used it to put hand prints on a t-shirt. I let it dry overnight and you can really see the glitter after it dried. I have not washed the shirt yet so I dont know how it will look after I wash it.

Ok, I know some folks are saying there’s turned out gray, but that wasn’t the case for me. Maybe so because I put on three coats. I did the first coat (now that looked a bit dark grey), then let it dry for a day, then the second, same-it dried for a day, and then the third coat. I think it turned out well.

Used this to paint a black tank top, did have to used two coats but that was expected. Worked perfectly. After washing the shirt was flexible and was comfortable to wear.

First let me start off by saying that Ive been using tulip fabric paints for some time now and Ive always been a really satisfied recurring customer. This time is no different - the paints work wonderfully for my needs (usually some cosplay or DYI to my outfit) but to be honest I tend to fall back on them whenever Im dealing with somewhat challenging material. It turns out theyre pretty versatile with the exception of airbrush (its physical properties are almost the direct opposite of what youd want for AB). So why the lone star rating? Basically to bring your attention to the issue of product line naming, including color, and poor or nonexistent specification (even most unspecific one). This is especially apparent with new product lines or customers first encounter with it. You never know what to expect, no photos no you tube videos - just simply having to buy some to draw a line on a piece of cardboard and after few hours say aha. Just a simple photo of such piece of cardboard would solve many issues. Heres most recent example: I ordered the natural soft glow. Everyone from the company claims is glows white of off white at most. This proves pretty much that they never even saw the product theyre selling. I wouldnt be surprised if it was named natural by someone in the fabric in china and people in fresno are just a little clueless because if you shine a blacklight through it it clearly fluoresces and phosphoresces (if these are the correct words) green/with a hint of yellow. in the meantime all their materials including packaging displays a white glow. And the story goes on and on. Try to imagine what they mean by velveteen color or what the heck is iris color. Maybe whenever thinking about a poppy color you picture a shade of red/orange like most of the worlds poppy flowers but thats when a fun fact comes to kick you in the face with california poppies being actually yellow. Guess which one the Fresno based company went with? Right now I wouldnt really be surprised if the color they pictured was black tar... Still Id love to recommend tulip paints to anyone whos DYIng or DYEing a little sometimes - the product is great

Today crafters still turn to TULIP for inspiration through their favorite techniques while discovering the ease and beauty of exciting new dimensional painting with TULIP paints.
