> 3 dayBattery life is excellent. Good national database. Problem is with reception. Scanning local airport channels while next to airport and did not pick up transmission. Same issue scanning local fire and police while at home. Only picks up a transmission once in a while.

> 3 dayUPDATE February 2020: Tried to get it to work after we moved from NC back to Florida. It scans the Ocala area data base, but only brings in a couple of weather channels. Only transmit static on all 100+ stations in the area. Too much money to spend for a device that lasts only 3 years. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I received and set up my Uniden HP-2 scanner yesterday. Let me tell you, after trying out a couple of scanners 15 -20 years ago, this one is so easy by comparison. You just put in the zip code, or the name of your town, or your coordinates, and any stations within 10 or 20 miles will be scanned. Then you can easily weed out the less useful ones. I got this model to use as an appliance, not a as a hobby. I will use it as an info gathering tool so I can know what is going on around me in the event of a local or regional disaster, be it an ice storm or forest fire (the most likely disasters in this area) or something worse. I wont be spending weeks and months honing my skills on it. I got it so I can make it useful in the least amount of time. Its perfect for that.

> 3 dayThis scanner is perfect for anyone who is new to the hobby. Only things I do not like about it is that is does not monitor NXDN or DMR.

> 3 dayEasy to use. Much better than a cell phone appams it is about 20 seconds faster than a delayed cell phone scanner app. I was hesitant to spend this much money on something like this knowing that a cell phone as an app that can do the same thing, not true whatsoever this thing is great, it’s faster than a cell phone and when you’re on a cell phone you’re only picking up one channel the scans them all this is a definite must buy I absolutely love it

> 3 dayThis is my second radio scanner,(My first was a whistler TRX-1). This unit is super easy to use and program. Gets great reception and seems to pickup better and faster than my TRX-1. The speaker is louder and having the replay option is really nice so you can listen to the last transmission that came through if you missed somthing or want to make sure you heard correctly.

> 3 dayThis is an excellent starter scanner. Very easy to use. However, while the specs say it can read a 64GB microSD card, this would be difficult without some computer knowledge and additional software. This device can only read microSD cards formatted in FAT32. Windows 11 restricts FAT32 format to 32GB memory or smaller. Anything larger than 32GB Windows 11 will format in exFAT, which cannot be read by HomePatrol. AND this needs a telescopic antenna, if you want to receive the lower frequencies with clarity. The battery management or charging system is very rudimentary/basic. It is not capable of charging based upon the state of charge of the batteries. Also lithium rechargeable batteries cannot be used.

> 3 dayI love this thing! After I had help setting it up, but after that I listen to local police, fire, and EMS. The channels come in clear and the display is easy to recognise which emergency frequency you are on. I would recommend a battery charger to charge the batteries.

> 3 dayAwesome scanner. I have a portable scanner that I used for my house, but had to take it apart to take it with me since I keep it plugged in to keep the batteries charged. I decided to buy one for the house and one for mobile. My first impression was that I had the best scanner already and this would offer me nothing new. Boy, was I wrong. I get channels I never received before from all over the state. Its also mobile too, which means I can take it with me on trips if I want. Yes, its a learning curve to master all of the features that it offers, but the upgrade was well worth whatever effort I have to put forth to learn how to use all of the available features. Id definitely recommend this scanner to anyone looking for a permanent scanner for their home.

> 3 dayI recently purchased a Uniden Home Patrol 2 and am sorry to say I am very disappointed with this scanner. Upon setting it up, it required a Sentinel download and an update. When attempting to update the firmware — on two separate computers — It was impossible. When trying to register the scanner, it would not allow me to register because i was unable to upgrade to 2.0. Looking further into the Uniden website, firmware 2.0 could be purchased for $49.99. Seeing the 2.0 came out in 2014, you would think that by 2022 it would come with the latest update. I guess my complaint is that I thought I was upgrading my old scanner, but now I realize I’m no better off after spending $400, even without the $49.99. Reception is no better than my two Realistic Pro 2005’s that are over 20 years old.
