The TV infomercials made it seem like it was the ultimate tech toy, but in reality it is a bit challenging to use and get a clean scan. (For instance, running it across the fabric of a bedspread. Great! But how often in the real world does a person need to do that?!?) It fails often. Running it across pictures to scan them will frequently result in the image moving and not being able to get a neat and tidy scanned image, so it takes multiple attempts. On top of that, the batteries seem to be drained frequently. But the CONCEPT is great! It has some excellent applications. I just listed the negatives first. I have set it aside now for quiet some time due to disappointment with how many passes it takes to complete a decent scan.

The other reviewers have good observations. It took me about 45 minutes to get the hang of it. In particular, I would push Scan, would start the page, and then after a second or two it would stop scanning. Yikes! Thought I must be moving it too fast, so I slowed it down. That made it worse! The trick is to move the wand smoothly, firmly and without hesitation. To give an idea, I scan an 11 page in 8-10 seconds, counting thousand one, thousand two. Every scan comes out. Read other reviews that deal with the gutter issue. Some books, its easier to photocopy the pages, then scan them. The Preview window really is too tiny to be of use.

If you get the VuPoint PDSWF-ST47-VP wand scanner, you should get this also. Only four stars because it really should come with it. A previous review showed how his had worn with use. They seem to have change the case material to all woven ballistic nylon (I think). So maybe it will bear up better. I keep it at home, but the case nicely keeps the usb cable and cloth and bits with the scanner. USB slots keep changing and so youre going to want to keep the one that fits this device with the device.

This case is attractive and sturdy looking/feeling. However when I first attempted to put my new VuPoint PDS-ST470PU-VP into the case it would not go in and I was hesitant to force it. I actually filled out the paperwork to return it, then double-checked if there was another one available for my particular model. Turns out it was the same, so I tried one more time to make it fit. I actually had to force it in (at first) and the opening of the case actually stretched a little to accommodate. Both the case and the zipper are a bit stiff right out of the box, but as I zipped/unzipped it loosened up. I would have given 4.5 stars (if available) with the 1/2 taken off for the forced fit, but it doesnt deserve 4 stars so 5 it is! :-D Pros: Compact with pockets for the power cord and SD card Sturdy and rubbery, feels like it would protect the scanner if accidentally dropped (have not tested that!) Cons: Must force the scanner into the case, if you just rest it on the case it looks like it should be about 1/4 inch longer

I dont normally review products, but I thought this little scanner was a definite product worth reviewing. I bought this mainly because I have a ton of recipes that I have torn out of books or printed off the internet and I was trying to figure out some way of organizing them all into a PDF document so I could just import them into my computer recipe program. This little scanner is pretty awesome for just that purpose. I can scan the pages (a lot of the paper types are too slick and get jammed up in my sheet-feeder scanner) and hook it to the computer. Voila! There are my images, which I can then use Adobe Acrobat to put into a PDF document for me. The scanner does NOT come with a micro SD card, so make sure you purchase one. You do NOT need to remove the micro SD card from the scanner; all you do is connect the scanner to your USB drive and it is recognized by your computer like a removeable drive. There are two DPI settings. I have not figured out how to permanently make the DPI 600 instead of 300, but every time you turn it on, you will get better scans if it is at 600 DPI. Yes, it takes up a little more memory, but well worth it. I would not use this for photos, becuase I have a good scanner for that. My primary reason was for scanning printed stuff. This will also be great to take to the college library to scan articles and such without having to make (and pay for) copies or check out books.

I ordered this to carry my newly purchased Wolverine PASS scanner. (You know how it is--once you buy stuff, then you have to buy stuff for your stuff....) The case fits it perfectly and seems very well made. It is a black zippered hardcase with a soft lining. When case is opened, the scanner slips into one side under an elastic strap that holds the scanner in its bed, while the other side of the case has two pockets (one short, the other long) that can hold your USB cord, extra batteries, microSD card/adapter, etc. I really like that I can carry these things in the case with the scanner and have them all in one place. Zipper seems well made. Overall, the case is handsome and very functional. A good investment!

Amazing portable scanner for scanning items that cant be moved to a traditional scanner. Very easy to connect the scanner to a computer and access your scans. Note this means you cant see the quality of you scan immediately. If your scanning a lot of pages I would highly suggest scanning a few pages, and then check to see if your technique is giving you the desired quality you want. The most important thing when scanning is just to make you scan at a constant slow-medium speed, keeping the scanner flat on your surface of interest. Only issue I ran into was trying to scan a book, upon which I would usually see blurring in the middle of the book. Not impossible to read, just the quality wasnt as high as the outside region of the page. Other users have suggested placing a transparent sheet over your book, and scan over the transparent sheet. This removes the issues involved with blurs in the middle of a book, and allows you to scan both pages at once, cutting down on the number of required scans.

I love this scanner!!!! Works great!!! I use it to scan articles or book pages in my schools library; Im a grad student and it takes searching for a copier, and waiting for the person/people in front of u to use it! Also great b/c its soo portable, the card I bought separately has lots of room to scan lots of pics at high resolution and color, the batteries dont get used up quickly! I defiantly recommend this over a flatbed scanner any day! Last week I brought it to my moms and scanned our 30+yr old family photo album. The pics were fading and the book was falling apart; now all family members have digital copies and can photoshop them back to original luster and stuff. Love it!!!
