It works great, but wish I could get a little closer to the middle of the page. If the inside margin is small I sometimes cannot get the whole page which is a real nuisance. Otherwise it works great.

I purchased this scanner specifically for scanning pages out of library reference books. It does well with a few caveats. 1) The physical scanner is quite a bit wider than the 8.5 imaging area which makes it difficult to get text near the binding. The imaging area is 7/8 in from one end and 1+1/32 from the other end. 2) For good results, it is very important to keep the book surface flat. Any 1/32 gap results in darker and out of focus areas, worsening with larger gaps. 3) One method to get closer to the binding (1/2) is to scan the page perpendicularly. Its easier to keep the surface flush against the scanner, but you only get 8.5 of page width. Okay for smaller books, or requiring stitching together two scans for taller books. 4) The color 1.5 color display is too small to see if youve made any small mistakes (wrinkles, uneven motion), but you can tell if youve made medium sized scanning errors. For scanning books with bindings, I think Id prefer an 11 long wand scanner and draw the scanner from the binding to the outside of the book.

I purchased this unit to scan documents in my work area and in the field to save a long trek to a tabletop scanner, versus using a handheld phone over the document. I often need to text the image immeadiately after. I found that there are practical limitations, as well as some product flaws that render it bascially unusable for my need. Limitations are you need a PERFECTLY flat surface and THREE hands. One to move the scanner, one to pin down the top of your document, and one to hold the bottom of the document taut if there is even the slightest fold or crease. I dont believe you could use this e.g. on a package, box, or shipping crate label unless it was perfectly hard and flat. The product flaws are 1-Very poor battery life, it was down 70% after 5 scans. 2-You have to reenable the wifi every time you turn it on, it takes about 1.5-2 minutes to connect. So you are loath to turn it off which runs into problem 1. 3. The phone app has no way to directly attach the scan to a text message. 4. When it does connect to your phone/PC you have to manually reset your wifi connection to the network after. It does have a USB connection which I did not use becuase hassle. Because of these issues, it would kill my productivity versus using a phone which needs only one hand and can be texted immeadiately with zero hassle. I suggest putting the $100 towards your phone.

Not used much at this point. Was hoping to be able to scan from old manuals with taking them apart. If scanner is not flat over complete scan, the image gets several dark spots

My husband is an engineer and he has to scan documents in the field. This is compact and sturdy enough to slide into his computer case. Easy to use.

I looked the Vue Point wand scanners up on their website before I chose the most recent model, this PDSDK-ST470-VP. I liked the slightly higher DPI, 1050 instead of the 900 DPI of the ST450 model. Plus, the Preview Screen looks like a nice addition over other models. On the Vue Point compare current products comparison chart, it says this wand scanner comes with the Auto-Feed Dock. Since this is not what I received on my order, I checked around and saw that nowhere this model is sold does it come with the docking station. I called Vue Point customer service. They are pretty good, in that the agent picked up right away and was honest and direct in telling me that in spite of what their comparison chart says, the PDSDK-ST470-VP model does not come with a dock. She gave me the model number of the dock that goes with the PDSDK-ST470-VP. It is acs-pds-dk1-vp. She told me that no other dock will fit this scanner model. They dont sell any product from the manufacturers website. She said that only HSN will sell the acs-pds-dk1-vp dock. Well, they dont and no one else has it either - now at the end of October 2013 . It is not even on the Vue Point website. But I did find a couple of other sites that will be selling it for over fifty dollars in the future. Other websites carry this scanner for less than I paid for it, so shop around. After much thought, I am keeping this model. Maybe the dock isnt that important for my needs. But if you find it in stock somewhere, I hope you can post that here so I will know.
