> 3 dayHeavy duty, well made and fast. Actually using this one as digital photo storage. As a Naturalist with about 1.2TB of photos (birds, insects, mammals, reptiles, plants, etc.), this serves as a portable library as well as tertiary backup of all my photos.

> 3 dayDrive has a decent form factor, a little bulkier than others but not bad. Plastic but a sturdy feel to it. The bad news is this drive is not intended to actually be used. Received mine, plugged it in, and started transferring files to it. About an hour into file transfer (the sending drive is an old 5400 RPM so it was taking a while) I received error messages and all my USB devices disconnected. I discovered that I could get my other devices to work again- as long as I unplugged the WD drive, everything else was fine. Thought maybe it was a file corruption error, so I took it over to my old desktop and plugged it in prior to turning the machine on. Hit the power button on the computer... nothing. Verified I hadnt unplugged the computer or done something stupid, tried again. Nothing. Unplugged the WD drive from the computer, machine turned right on. I suspect what happened is the WD drives active cooling is actually just a sh*t heatsink that isnt capable of properly shedding heat from the drive under sustained load. Not sure how this is acceptable for a gaming drive- never mind any version of a storage drive- as loads are typically at least somewhat constant. Anywho, this is going in for a refund. Its a design issue, not a random failure worthy of an exchange and second chance. Maybe gaming loads are different enough this will do fine on your XBOX or PS4, but if you need it for actual storage- it wont even survive the initial file transfer and I wouldnt be surprised if others had stories of this thing causing permanent damage to their motherboards during its death throes.

> 3 dayI wanted a dependable, affordable and portable high storage capacity HDD. It was between this and the Seagate. Between these 2 brands, Ive only had issues with the Seagate in the past. However, a 4TB Seagate was $20 cheaper than the WD. Ive heard issues w.r.t transfer speeds on the Seagate, so I decided to get the WD for $20 more. Im glad to say that Ive made the right choice. Out of the box, it was formatted in ExFAT (which I prefer). I immediately transferred 30GB of files over to this HDD and it transferred at a rate of 1Gb/Sec! AWESOME! Just what I expected. If youre trying to decide whether to save a few dollars; dont. Not worth the money and time.
