Purchase this for grandkids ps4 and ps5 to move/share games. Works great and the capacity for the price cant be beat.

Omg, was I dissatisfied with my purchase. Then, I realized when I formatted to NTFS I left the allocation unit size at the default 4k setting. Oh, thats really wonderful if you really want to save space, not if you need speed. Im an idiot, I work in IT, and I should have been smarter. Reformatted to 64k cluster size, and while I am currently losing about 20gb of space, the speed is significantly better. I see a sustainable 80MB/s at nearly all times, peaking at 120MB/s. At 4k cluster 80MB/s was my max, 20MB/s was average, less was common. I would be lying if I said I was not tempted to set the cluster size larger. If I did this, I would likely set up a partition with 512k or 1m cluster size. The wasted space would require considerations. Regardless, I am using cache software to enhance this drives performance. I set a L1 cache of ram at 24gb for this drive, and Im using a 256gb ssd as L2 cache. My speeds do not reflect the speed gains from using this cache, as cache was not active during testing. Cache also does very little to nothing at all on first read, and only shines in successive reads.

This is a very fast external drive. Much faster than all my other portable external drives. I am using it to store all my movies that I collected over the years. Thinking about getting another one. Wish it has other color besides just black.

Its amazing that one can now buy a 5TB drive for a $100 and some change! It is a 7200RPM drive, which is nice to see. I was worried it would be a 5400RPM, but at this price, I would have bought regardless. I like the look of the drive. Its small and barely noticeable. Speed is about what I would have expected. Other reviews provide a lot more benchmarking data than I ever would bother gathering. In a mostly-silent room, from even a distance of 10ft or so away, I can just hear the drive spinning. You cannot expect a physically-moving drive to be silent, and I knew there would be light noise. I wish the included cable was 2 or 3 times longer than it is. I might end up having to buy a longer cable. I also wish the indicator light was on the opposite side. Due to the way I have to have it positioned with the short cable, I cannot see the light unless I pick up the drive and angle it differently. Those are about the only negatives I can say though after using this the last couple of days. If you can get by with 1TB or less capacity, Id recommend an external SSD drive instead. I have no doubt that in a couple years drives like this will be even cheaper and less common, and the value with SSDs will continue to get better. But if you need TBs of space, and you need it today, you should consider this drive.

All I Got To Say It Does What Its Supposed To Do...

The speeds are what they promised, the space is what they promised but I found that it is quite rugged too. I dropped it twice from about 2ft while setting up my laptop stand and it seems to have held up well. Of course the needle was parked since I wasnt actively using it. This is my send >4TB HDD and Im happy with it. Good job there WD!

I recently bought a gaming console and ran right into the frequent lack of system storage problem. I ordered the extended hard drive in an act of desperation and it came the same day. It works perfectly with my console, it is inexpensive, but a quality product nonetheless.
