> 3 dayI recently bought a gaming console and ran right into the frequent lack of system storage problem. I ordered the extended hard drive in an act of desperation and it came the same day. It works perfectly with my console, it is inexpensive, but a quality product nonetheless.

> 3 dayFor such a low price for 5TB of portable storage, who could complain? I have even dropped it a couple times with no bad effects. I would buy it again and reccomend it to friends.

> 3 dayNot the products fault, I should have done more research. But if youre looking for a external hard drive for ps5 games this isnt what you want.

> 3 dayFirst, I build and repair a lot of computers and electronics for family and friends. I ALWAYS use Western Digital drives when building or replacing a hard drive. I usually use the Black series of drives for performance, durability, and the warranty. These drives last well past their warranties with decent performance for a conventional platter drive. These are the ones to use when you need a large capacity conventional hard drive. I purchased this 5TB gaming external drive to expand the capacity of my PS4. For the first time, Ive gone all digital with my PS4 games to reduce the number of game cases and disks around. I also like to have all of the games available without re-downloading, so this makes digital storage capacity at the console critical for me. Hooking up this drive, formatting it, and moving games over from the internal PS4 HD was much easier than I had anticipated. Downloading games from PSN to the external hard drive is also seamless. Running games directly from the portable drive through the USB 3.0 connection doesnt seem to be any slower than launching them from the internal hard drive, at least I havent noticed any difference in the load times by subjective evaluation. When running continuously, like during a game transfers, the drive gets warm but doesnt seem to get hot enough where I would be concerned. The only major down side to this drive, and its a flaw with most of the 2.5 based WD portable drives, is that they put the drives activity light right next to the USB cable connection. I have the drive stacked on top of my PS4 so that i can see the light flash whenever its reading / writing. I would rather not see the cable, which has to be twisted from the front back around the housing to plug it into the rear PS4 USB port. Depending on how you route the cable, you may not be able to see the light from certain angles if the cable blocks your line of sight. Its not a big deal, but it would be nicer if they had the drive activity light on the other side for a cleaner looking setup. The other down side, which doesnt bother me at all since Im not planning to tear this thing apart and I havent verified this info personally, is that according to youtube reviews the drive itself is not a standard 2.5 SATA laptop drive. The actual hard drive is a portable specific build with a different interface board, so you cant disassemble this bad boy and pop the drive into something else or use the enclosure with a different 2.5 HD. Ive only had mine for a couple of months, but so far I have no complaints. It does everything I need with no perceivable penalty in performance. The extra storage space (5TB!) is a life saver since I had maxed out my PS4s internal drive, and it had already been upgraded to a 2TB drive. This is a much better option than cutting up the PS4s case to fit the height of a 4TB internal replacement. In addition, Sony did a nice job in making this approach a well supported option for expanding the PS4s storage capacity.

> 3 dayOmg, was I dissatisfied with my purchase. Then, I realized when I formatted to NTFS I left the allocation unit size at the default 4k setting. Oh, thats really wonderful if you really want to save space, not if you need speed. Im an idiot, I work in IT, and I should have been smarter. Reformatted to 64k cluster size, and while I am currently losing about 20gb of space, the speed is significantly better. I see a sustainable 80MB/s at nearly all times, peaking at 120MB/s. At 4k cluster 80MB/s was my max, 20MB/s was average, less was common. I would be lying if I said I was not tempted to set the cluster size larger. If I did this, I would likely set up a partition with 512k or 1m cluster size. The wasted space would require considerations. Regardless, I am using cache software to enhance this drives performance. I set a L1 cache of ram at 24gb for this drive, and Im using a 256gb ssd as L2 cache. My speeds do not reflect the speed gains from using this cache, as cache was not active during testing. Cache also does very little to nothing at all on first read, and only shines in successive reads.

Greater than one weekI love having some extended memory to my ps5, Ive essentially upped my storage by 5tb. On the plus side I can move all of my ps4 apps over to this drive and still use them, the only downside I can think of is the cable could be a tad longer.

> 3 dayJust purchased my 2nd WD_black 5TB portable HDD ☺ Very happy with 1st unit, which I reformatted to use as a MacAir M2 backup drive. The hardsisk mounts transparently on the Mac laptops, once formatted. When I needed an additional portable drive for storing large video files for a research project, I did not hesitate to purchase an additional 5TB drive of same model. Given the 3yr warranty plus rock solid reliability of the WD HDD was a no brainer for me. Also having this large drive powered via one USB connector was a nice feature. Purchased an extra Ainope B0BLJL6 2E37-1M 3.3ft usb cable which has both usb a and usb c male connectors, since I would be using this unit between different computers. Its nice not needing to fiddle and look for extra adapters. Looking forward to getting my 2nd 5TB portable!!!
