> 3 dayIve got a Radex One geiger counter/dosimeter that I laid on top of a new package of 10 0.040x7 electrodes. It read 0.28µS/Hr, with a background reading of 0.10µS/Hr. For comparison, I also did the two packages of red 2%Th electrodes I had on hand, getting 0.56µS/Hr and 1.08µS/Hr readings. Mind you those are 3/32 and 1/16 electrodes, and different brands from a local welding supplier. Dividing the reading by the volume of the electrodes gave me wildly different numbers for the 2% thorium (no, I didnt mix up the data - I re-measured to be sure) at 0.08µS/Hr per cc (3/32) and 0.35µS/Hr per cc (1/16). These Tri-mix .040 electrodes come back at 0.12µS/Hr per cc. Not bad, but definitely radioactive.
