Greater than one weekHad to replace a SSD with a HDD due to bios problems so went with this drive. First, off the bat, I had NO PROBLEM registering this drive! I registered it while it was still in the sealed wrapper just in case but the registration took and so I installed it. This drive is very thin! You definitely will need a caddy for laptop installs unless you have a newer, small laptop. My 17-inch had no problem with room. Speed is fine; not near as happy as with my SSD but I had no choice - a brick laptop or downgrade to a HDD. Ohh well ... that is Asus for you! Again, NO PROBLEM with registering though it did not include instructions and shipped in a brown box; most likely a OEM model but as long as it was able to be registered and showed a warranty active I cannot complain. I HAVE NOT used the software yet as the external box is still enroute through Amazon.

30-11-2024So it is no secret that WD makes good drives and the Blue line is pretty mediocre, but solid. I purchased this primarily as photo storage for my wifes new Windows 10 laptop. Im no stranger to the internal working of computers, but I could NOT get Windows to see it. The UEFI saw it, but not the OS (did not show in either Disk Management or Device Monitor). After banging my head against it repeatedly for a couple of hours and finding NOTHING useful on either the Microsoft or WD support sites, I finally came across a mention that this sometimes happens on Windows 10. The way to fix it is seemingly unrelated, but it worked. Run the Windows Memory Diagnostic application. This WILL reboot your computer and run for, in my case, about 10 minutes. However, when completed, Disk Management could see the drive and I was able to initialize and format. Works like a champ now.

> 3 dayI ordered this for my PS4 slim since 500gb wasn’t enough, and it worked great for a week. As soon as I set it up in the PS4, I was able to download over 1.5tb worth of games into and still had plenty left over. Less than 1 week in, I started hearing what sounds like a grinding noise, after some research, it was apparently the sound of the drive head reading/writing data. It wasn’t that loud at first, couldn’t hear it if I had game sound playing. But then the next week, I could hear it over the game sound and it really got irritating. So I sent it back to get a replacement thinking I had just got a defective drive. But wait, there’s more. After I got the new drive, I installed the same way, worked fine. I thought maybe I downloaded too many games too fast and it too much last time, so I would only download 1 game a day. Worked for a little bit. But immediately after the return period ended, the grinding noise came back with full force. If you’re looking for long term reliability, try out Seagate’s Barracuda drives, they might be better. I wouldn’t know though since I’m stuck with listening to grinding when I play my games now.

> 3 dayI have an Acer Predator Helios 300. PH315-52 that has 2 NVMe slots and 1 SATA slot. I went with this mechanical HDD for data that doesnt need real fast access time. When I transfered my pictures album (over 6 GB of data) the average transfer speed was around 75 MB/s. It took about 20 minutes to transfer the data. So if youre thinking you will get 100 to 150 MB/s real world... NOT... but if youve got a lot of writes to the drive, then actually the mechanical drive will theoretically last longer as there are definite limits to the number of write cycles on a flash memory (about 1000 to 1500 unless my research is old).

> 3 dayI had a 1tb drive in my Dell 5587 laptop, and I had long considered replacement options. While a SSD would have been better, they are just not affordable yet in 2tb. I found this 5400 rpm 2 tb drive by WD which is the same 5400 stats as the drive I had. And since I just installed a WD-Blue in my desktop, I knew it was a great choice. Installation is pretty straight forward and so far the drive works as advertised. I will update my review if anything changes. On a side note, I will not buy any seagate drives as everyone I have had over the last three years failed.
