western digital has always been a trusted manufacturer of hard drives but amazon ( Ships from Amazon.com) did not place special handling ( handle with care, fragile) on shipping package. i tested drive good.

I was very happy with my hard drive. SSD is faster yes but to have this extra space to store work files and documents leaves my SSD ready for any mild gaming I do. Easy to install and easy to set up. I have no clue about anything computers and with one or two videos on youtube I figured it out.

I have been wanting for several years now to consolidate and deduplicate my older files onto a single drive and have my deduplicating software help me eliminate the extras. I wanted a drive that I could put into an external enclosure so I could move it from machine to machine. I have been trusting Western Digital drives for nearly 20 years because they last and last. This 8TB/5640 RPM drive was at an affordable price point for me, so I chose this one over a slightly faster but more expensive drive. Heres some free advice: get an external enclosure with a FAN -- for me it has doubled the lifetime of my spinning drives, including the 3 external WD drives I currently own. I have 3 of this specific enclosure, and they work great: https://www.amazon.com/Enclosure-Aluminium-External-Cooling-Tool-Free/dp/B07D72Z4XD/ref=sr_1_5 Enjoy!

Tough to review this one. I am sure the drive will be fine. Its quiet but I have 4 fans going in my setup so it would have to be really loud for me to notice but .. I put my ear to it and didnt hear a thing. I have used this brand of drive before and it lasted forever and I still have it as a backup in an external case. It is a quality drive and my computer overall feels much faster since installation and everything I open from that drive just pops open instantly so it is more than fast enough for general Document/ picture use. Here lies my issues. ... If you are buying a drive in a box then I will assume you have a fair understanding of computers and dont need or want factory software. I am glad it didnt come with any and it was easy to set up. But .. I am using this as a second internal drive to take some weight off of my gaming drive. Still not an issue because I had spare connectors for it but ... It didnt come with screws!!! How can it not come with screws?! I built my system ages ago and it has slots for a variety of things but not all of those slots are set with screws waiting for a device. They are open blank bays. So Amazon delivery was awesome and it was delivered same day at about 6pm. Open the box take out the drive and I looked through the minimal packaging 10 times still not believing they didnt include screws. Luckily .. It wasnt an emergency to get it up and running and I had screws buried in a box I could use. So its a 4.5 star drive for your regular stuff though I havent and wont try it with gaming but it gets a measly 1 star for not including hardware. It seems very fast and should last a good long time .. but come on .. 4 cheap screws. So if you are buying this as a second or third internal drive .. make sure you have some screws on hand.

It is a good product at a cheap price, acceptable transfer speed, rotation speed 5640 RPM. enough storage capacity. Packaging and protection: hard drive does not dance in the box, it comes with some plastic that prevents it from moving during transport. Status: The hard drive arrived in perfect condition.

This drive, this particular one, performs beyond typical specs in a variety of tests so for value/performance it has been a great purchase. Having been involved in both large & small quantity purchases since the pc level hard drives first arrived I can only say they have been a commodity item for at least 2 decades. The terabyte size drives have matured as we are moving into the newer realm of the multi-gigabyte drives 3, 4GB & higher at the consumer level. All the major manufacturers tend to provide excellent products as do some of the very small providers. The only problem that may come up with the smaller provider might be the sale of high capacity drives at bargain basement prices because they did not really meet the specifications of the original manufacturer. In that case reliability could be a real issue but you may get lucky and get one that stands out from the crowd & works really well. At those prices it becomes the luck of the draw. Also, to be fair, a major manufacturer can just have a bad hair day only to find a group made it out the doer that just dont really measure up. They often dont find this out until the drives start coming back having failed. Overall the chances of a defective drive made by one of the major manufacturers is just much smaller than one provided by one of the smaller companies. I, personally, use WD Seagate, Toshiba, IBM, Maxtor, etc. and can say they all have had their good, and bad, days but overwhelmingly good days. Just really remember that heat kills so keep your drives as cool as you can, make sure your fans are working & the airflow is not restricted. Dont allow dust to build up as it insulates the drives & keeps the heat in creating a very unhappy drive. Generally if the drive is to hot to keep your fingers on it find a way to cool it down as it will fail much sooner at that heat level. If you have access to some of the software that will let you know the running temperature, of the newer drives, I use CrystalDiskInfoPortable which is free as one of the many free software packages found on www.PortableApps.com. While not a professional package it does let me know how hot my drives are running so I will know if trouble may be on the way. It also provides a great deal of additional information if you want more data to review. All the software on PortableApps is legally free & is part of the Open Software system so enjoy &, if you want, pass the word around. I hope Amazon doesnt get to upset over the posting of their web site but it is free & I have no interest beyond helping others with its posting.

I dont game, so I gave it 3 stars, just because I didnt know. I have a Synology backup drive with two mirrored 1 TB hard drives. Around Christmas, one of those failed, so I bought this one to replace it. It went in perfectly, and the mirroring was updated, and were fully protected again. Easy-peazy!
