Cost to byte ratio is great. Installed and formatted easily. Didnt come with a sata cable. Both my last blue WDs lasted 12 years.

Tough to review this one. I am sure the drive will be fine. Its quiet but I have 4 fans going in my setup so it would have to be really loud for me to notice but .. I put my ear to it and didnt hear a thing. I have used this brand of drive before and it lasted forever and I still have it as a backup in an external case. It is a quality drive and my computer overall feels much faster since installation and everything I open from that drive just pops open instantly so it is more than fast enough for general Document/ picture use. Here lies my issues. ... If you are buying a drive in a box then I will assume you have a fair understanding of computers and dont need or want factory software. I am glad it didnt come with any and it was easy to set up. But .. I am using this as a second internal drive to take some weight off of my gaming drive. Still not an issue because I had spare connectors for it but ... It didnt come with screws!!! How can it not come with screws?! I built my system ages ago and it has slots for a variety of things but not all of those slots are set with screws waiting for a device. They are open blank bays. So Amazon delivery was awesome and it was delivered same day at about 6pm. Open the box take out the drive and I looked through the minimal packaging 10 times still not believing they didnt include screws. Luckily .. It wasnt an emergency to get it up and running and I had screws buried in a box I could use. So its a 4.5 star drive for your regular stuff though I havent and wont try it with gaming but it gets a measly 1 star for not including hardware. It seems very fast and should last a good long time .. but come on .. 4 cheap screws. So if you are buying this as a second or third internal drive .. make sure you have some screws on hand.

This drive is giving me some trepidation. All the tests seem to work, and the SMART data says its good. But when I do error checks, I can see the transfer speed fluctuate (up and down) more so than on normal drive. That might be just the way the Blue drives are. I also get a small downward spike write before the 195 gB mark, on every test. But, I have zero filled the drive and verified every 0 was written about a half dozen times, did a 7 pass DoD 5220 erase, and verified it, and every check comes with with a good drive, no reallocated sectors or pending sectors. And transfer speeds overall seem par. (its best to spend a few days working a hard drive so see if it will fail. Just a qucik format, or a one time full format wont guarantee that the drive will not fail soon). I am confident the drive is up to spec, I just wonder about that small downward spike in transfer, and it could even be a firm ware issue. A similar drive from Seagate, similarly priced, also has a 2 year limited warranty. One should only buy drives with a three year warranty unless money is tight, and it always is. BUT - the reason to go with a WD drive, is they have a good warranty replacement system. I have a failed Seagate drive, and a WD BLACK drive that was going into the stages of failure (500+ reallocated blocks and transfers moving very slowly) - failures will happen, No problem on WDs product support web page. Registered the WD Black drive, they know its in warranty from the build date (hard drives apparently are just-in-time manufacturing), and in 5 minutes, printed out a RMA, and bought a shipping label with a small WD discount for UPS. Seagate on the other hand, says my 3/2012 build date drive, with a 2 year warranty, is out of warranty. I will have to call them. Thumbs up to WD for an accurate, complete and simple process. This is their Blue series drive. Their Black series drive has a higher quality, and longer warranty. Between the two, the Black should be used for back-ups.

I use this drive for storage my old one failed it was about 6 years old so i replaced it with this. Id originally bought a seagate 7200 rpm drive and it was showing in bios it was failing after transferring all my backed up data onto it. So i sent it back to new egg for a refund. This one had no issues and the weird thing is, its advertised as a 5400 rpm drive which is supposed to be slower but the transfer rate on the data actually seemed faster to me which is wierd. Anyway western digital is my brand of choice for mechanical hard drives. I have this internal and an external USB and theyre both great, very dependable and no issues at all. I dont think ill be using seagate again as i always seem to have problems with their drives for some reason. Maybe im just unlucky but thats about the 3rd or 4th drive ive had that had some major problem. WD drives seem to be workhorses and last virtually forever and they work straight out the box, no special drivers or settup needed, im just using generic windows drivers. I highly recommend western digital for any of your storage needs. I havent tried their SSDs but HDD they are king in my book.

It’s been installed and is working as advertised. We’ll have to wait to see if the drive lasts the way it should. It should last for years, here’s hoping it does.

If you know anything about computers the thing is you will not buy a Sea Gate hard drive. They do not stand up to Western Digital at all. The plus is you get an extra year longer on the warranty. I have had very little problems with them. The others just dont seem to hold the title. AND I say the others

I have an old 4 TB External Drive that I use to store archived information - I purchased this drive because I have used Western Digital components before - and WOW - what a great price. Item came on time, well packaged and in perfect condition. It took me less than 30 minutes to install it, flash it, and format it. LOVE IT!!!!
