This stuff is really bad for hermit crabs. Hermits need the sand moist at all times, which this sand does not do well at all. It will often harden and clump, meaning if your hermit digs down into it to molt, it might not be able to get back out. It can also stick to them when they molt, embedding itself into their skin and killing them. Get play sand; it might not be as pretty, but it wont kill your pets

It is a nice white fine sand, the crab seems to like it. But it does stick to his water sponges and his claws if he gets wet but comes right back off once it’s dry.

This product is unsafe for hermit crabs despite the marketing. This sand will stick once it gets wet and dry/harden onto the crab, eventually killing it. Yes, the colors are fun. I fell for it too, but learned. Read hermit crab care forums first and then decide. Hermit crabs need moist, clean playsand that you can find at any home improvement store. Playsand mimics their natural habitats best.

the product was okay but was not packed well. There was a hole in the bag and sand was everywhere, still shaking sand out of items today.

My hermit crabs HATED this sand! They would climb just so they wouldnt have to be on the ground. I would not reccomend this sand to anyone!

I havent bought this product, but I know for a fact Sand is not good for hermit crabs. As you probably know, hermit crabs, like many other crustaceans, molt. Theyre unable to do this with sand because sand will collapse on them if they dig in it. A cocoa fiber substrate is better for hermit crabs because they can dig in it and molt. If a hermit crab cannot molt itll just die. Your hermit crab may look happy, but in reality theyre just stuck in their old skin unable to get out. Please consider using a different substrate.
