With these, you can still use your old USB peripherals (thumb drives, external hard drives, corded keyboards, and the like) and not have to buy all new hardware. I use one in conjunction with my old 4 port adapter to aid with cable management and keep my desktop neater in addition to connecting ALL of my peripherals on just one port.
