My wonderful wife got me this as a birthday gift. I wish I had knew about these when I got the printer earlier this year! It is night and day difference for the stock board on my ender 3 pro. Now the fans are the only sound being heard. I caused myself some headache when I installed the mainboard. I tried to update the firmware and I put the one for a bltouch adapter on the sd card and loaded it onto the printer. That was not a huge deal, I went to crealitys website and just got the newest non bltouch binary file and loaded it onto the printer. Thats where my issues started, the printer would not work with that firmware, caused an autohoming error everytime I tried to start a print or even just autohome the machine. This error means you have to shut down power and reboot everytime. This happened every single time I tried to do anything. I tried every firmware I could find and had no luck. I was in panic mode as I thought I had just ruined this board my wonderful wife just bought me. I started researching the web and watching videos, seeing I wasnt the only one with the issue I kept looking. I read others having similar issues but none showing or saying how they fixed it. Then one fine sir on a post I created told me to compile a firmware file using vscode. I have no knowledge of coding at all so I was at a loss there. He then directed me to th3ds website. I found their correct files, unzipped them and loaded them into vscode. All is well until I had an error message not allowing me to proceed. So here I am 2 days later stuck again not bring able to print. I messaged th3d via one of their YouTube videos. They responded shortly after and pushed in the right direction. Back to vscode I go, found the 2 proper software extensions that I needed, loaded the file again, made all the proper selections, compiled the binary file and put it onto my freshly formatted sd card. Here is the moment of truth, insert the card and flip on the power. About 25 seconds later the screen displays th3d and then goes to the normal info screen. I hit autohome and BAM! The printer started moving and homed just as it should. That was 9 days ago, I have been printing everyday since without one issue from the printer, Thank God! Now Im happy and most important my wife is happy. I reached out to f1rst layer on amazon and Facebook messenger when this happened. I must say they have one of the best customer services I have ever contacted. Within that day they reached out and offed any help they could provide. Then they followed up 2 days later to make sure the board was working again. Top notch f1rst layer!

So where to start? F1st Layer has been an excellent company to work with. This product is by far one of the best items purchased from F1st Layer so far. It is extremely quiet! The biggest drawback was the install, if you purchased the BLTouch kit from F1st Layer you will need to swap the pins on the power cable for the BLTouch to match the pinout on the new silent board. Also F1st Layer includes Capricorn tubing and couplings in just about every package so dont worry about running out!

I tried flashing Marlin 2.0 bugfix on this board using the configuration.h for an Ender 3 V2 but the current version of the configuration files on GitHub as of 2/15/21 apparently defaults to the 4.2.2 board. It would power up ok, and the hotend and bed temperatures are measured and can be adjusted but it would not auto home (it would not move axes at all in the Motion submenu either). For the 4.2.7 board you must change the following #define in configuration.h #define MOTHERBOARD BOARD_CREALITY_V4 and replace it with #define MOTHERBOARD BOARD_CREALITY_V427 Apparently this definition was added to boards.h in August 2020.

Edit: The customer support team at F1rst Layer is First Class as they reached out to attempt to help me troubleshoot my issues. While they were not able to resolve my issues (I am going from an ender 3 to an ender 5) they were extremely detailed and attempted to provide many help articles and even offered for me to reach out and speak with them directly on Facebook for more support. The product itself works, it just didnt work for me. 6/10 product 4/10 installation support/guidance 10/10 Customer Support (Original Review Below) ======================================================== Black Screen of Death Control Screen Hot end Immediately Heated up after power was turned on Firmware update after firmware update after firmware update Bubbly Prints Jams The list of problems is Ongoing There is almost 0 support to be found online regarding these products, nor is there an agreed standard I only bought this kit because the factory hot end welded itself to the nozzle and I couldnt replace the nozzle without replacing the whole hot end. Hopefully I can return this, because honestly I shouldve just purchased a new Hot End and kept everything else the same. This Ruined my Ender 3 V2

Replaced my Ender 3 Pro mother board version 1.1.4 with this upgrade and the printer is almost silent. Its worth the purchase by itself.... The wifey cant complain about the never ending stepper motor noises!! The included fan is really quiet too, and has an amazing blue light....WOW!! Too bad it only lasted a day and half of printing!! Dont waste your time soldering it in (the cable wont reach the mother board). Pure junk! I love the springs, they are tighter(?) then the stock springs. If the fan had lasted it would have been 5 stars...

The negative first. 1) no instructions included at all -a) the video link is outdated, incorrect, and doesnt cover all items in kit. Not even by kit maker. 2) the fan doesnt fit and has to be modified (ender 3 pro) 3) coding the firmware was a pain and a guessing game using multiple videos online, seller could just provide a link to a file or a memory card with firmware 4) havent been able to print since upgrading More to come Im sure

This is a very small company, but they provide excellent service and stand behind their products. The Sprite extruder showed up quickly and was easy to set up. I had one question and James was able to answer it quickly and I was up and running in no time. You have a lot of vendor choices, but I really recommend F1rst Layer!

Update 3/20/2021: The filament runout sensor uses a simple internal microswitch, and is unfortunately unable to accept a filament entering in reverse. This is a problem, because once the end of the filament triggers the sensor during normal prints and causes the printer to initiate the filament runout sequence, the subsequent filament unload process wont be able to push the remaining filament back through this sensor! The filament will get stuck inside the sensor resulting in the extruder clicking in reverse and its gears chewing filament in place. The design is really not great at all. A very very simple design tweak would have avoided the issue altogether (the internal lever should have been designed to have a hump shape instead of a cliff shape). Oh well, I guess for this price they could not be bothered to think through such corner cases. ----- Original Review: I can no longer hear the stepper motors at all after upgrading. I knew this was going to reduce some of the wee-waa noises during printing, but I was not expecting a difference quite this big. The only noise I now hear is coming from the fans, and I am working on strategies to make those quieter as well. I am really glad I went with this upgrade. A few things to know if you purchase this board: 1. the firmware that comes on the board is really old (1.x.x) and optimized for 8-bit ATmel processors. Its easier to download the latest firmware source code (2.x.x) and build it yourself with VSCode -- lots of videos online on how to do this easily. 2. Make sure you set the correct motherboard in Configuration.h (for example BOARD_CREALITY_V427) 3. Set the correct build target in platformio.ini (STM32F103RET6_creality). Good luck!!

Man, seriously, my brand new logic board died after less than a month. This sucks, and the return/exchange window just closed. Seller Contact Me!

MORE INFO: REFER TO WIRING GUIDE IN PICTURES WHEN INSTALLING THE NEW BOARD!!!!!! IF YOU ARE UNCERTAIN ABOUT THE PROCESS TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR STOCK BOARD BEFORE DISCONNECTING THE WIRES FOR REFERENCE!! Springs included in this bundle are stiffer and sturdier than the stock bed springs on all ender series printers. The spring sizes also differ from the stock springs in length by roughly 5mm. in order to install the new springs, you may need to raise the z-axis limit switch by 4-6mm to accommodate for the longer length of these upgraded springs. For installation guides and how to update the firmware for this board, the YouTube channel "Teaching Tech" has created an excellent video guide to the 4.2.7 board and all of the things that can be installed with it. Some popular accessories compatible with this board include: BL Touch Ender 3 V2 color screen IF YOU HAVE AN ENDER 3 V2 / 5 and/or already have a BLtouch / V2 screen then please download and update your printer’s firmware from this folder - Firmware updates for this board can be found at on our Google drive folder, the URL for the folder is located on the insert card that comes with this product. Filament runout sensor STL file can be found at the thingiverse website. This 4.2.7 silent 32Bit control board from Creality is the next generation in tech released from Creality to use on their Ender series printers. The TMC 2225 stepper motor drivers are nearly 100% silent, drastically reducing sound from the machine during use.
