I bought this item to extend my old wire that didnt fit with my iphone 5 case. It was really inconvenient to have to take the case off every time to just plug it into my cars aux cable. This did the trick! The gold plate on the wire has a small and long enough diameter to fit right into my case without it interfering (my case is the ringke fusion shock absorption iPhone 5 case and the case wraps pretty closely around the headphone jack). The sound quality that comes out of my car is phenomenal for being being attached too a second cable. I love this product and would recommend it to anyone who is searching for a cable to fit with their iPhone case.
