Canon MP480 All-in-One Photo Printer

The Canon MP480 is a good all-in-one. It scans really well, prints well, and is easy to use. My only gripe is that it sucks ink like an old pickup sucks gas. The Canons XL size cartridge lasted a shorter time than the refill size on my old printer did. If you get this printer, my recommendation is to use it to print things you absolutely have to have at home and forget about printing photos. Photos will drain the cartridge dry in nothing flat.

I was looking for an inexpensive photoprinter for a member of the family and purchased this printer, having always been satisfied in the past with Canon products. I found the Canon MP480 to function quite well in both scanning and printing. Installing it was no problem. Very glad I purchased iot and the price cannot be beat. David

Ive been wanting to purchase this unit... have it on my Wish List. Been tracking the Amazon price(s) waiting till the cost falls below mfg suggested ($99.99). Checked today... Price $126.95! Checked the Canon website, price $99.99 Sorry Amazon... ya lost my biz on this one.

Printer works great on my iMac/Macbook. Scanning software is pretty clunky, though. Sometimes it has a problem where the paper gets jammed due to the way the paper sits in the up right tray. If you rotate the paper 180 degrees so that the leading edges curve is point down it fixes the problem. I went through about 50 jammed pages before I figured that one out :/

The scanner function will not work. Very poor documentation and support. Ive been using systems as a professional for over 20 years. Ive helped develop and document numbers of systems. The better-name brands will usually install or troubleshoot readily. I have a new HP Pavilion with Vista pre-installed (of course, Vista sucks big-time in its own right.) The scanner on this device refuses to work. Spent a day on it. Nothing yet. I got it because I wanted the scanner. So far, no joy.

Canons PIXMA MP480 all-in-one printer has a very nice presence. It is very sleek with many preference options; it is very user-friendly and easy to install. You must buy a USB cable; it does not come with the printer. Pros: The scanner and copier are good quality and have many options for professional images. The printer comes with useful software and free paper samples. The print quality is good (you must set the printer options correctly and use the right paper). The printer is very quick to respond and prints full coverage pages quickly. Cons: Ink: It will cost at least $40 to replace the ink for both the color and the black cartridges. (The ink lasts an average number of prints as compared to competitive printers.) There are only two cartridges, black and color, instead of the color-efficient 3 CMY cartridges. Durability: The printer is reasonably priced, but do not expect a heavy-duty printer at this cost. You will get what you are paying for. The shell of the printer is flimsy. It is made out of plastic. Overall, you will be pleased with this purchase and will be impressed with the quality of this deal!

I havent had this printer long, but so far it has worked well. Its easy to set up and I havent had any problems with it so far.

The printer does as advertised. I mostly use it to print papers for school. I try my best not to print anything else because the cost of the ink is crazy. The only reason I did not give this printer 5 stars is because it uses ink pretty fast. I got this printer May 2009 and I have not had any issues. I use the printer, copier and scanner. They all work well and it is easy to use. Its pretty self explanatory. I hooked it up with a random usb cord I had on hand. The printer does not come with a cord so if you decide to get the printer, then remember to buy a cord to attach it to your computer. ************************************************** I am updating my review Jan 23 2015. I have had this printer for about 6 years and I am still in school. Now full time instead of part time. I have been using it mostly for scanning documents for class more than printing in the past 2 years. I only find myself printing items to return rental textbooks, or return faulty merchandise, also to print coupons once in awhile. However, if your print head is not recognized then you cannot do anything not even scan with the printer. My copier worked fine with the canon ink and then it started giving an error saying B200 printer error see manual. There is nothing in the manual but I went on Google and none of the resolutions worked for me. The last resolution was to unplug the printer for 24 hours, I did that and now there is an error saying U051 print head is not installed, install print head. The same print heads are in the printer. I opened new ink and put it in the printer and it still did not work. That is $40 worth of new ink that will be thrown in the trash. I am getting an HP printer. I am finished with Canon because this is the second printer that stopped working for weird reasons. I gave the printer 2 stars for lasting 6 years. Also to get the a new print cartridge that cost $125. In other words, I will use that money for a printer instead. I going with HP because the cost of ink is half the price. I purchased this to replace a Lexmark all-in-one and I couldnt be happier. The quality of photos and everyday printing is very sharp. The only drawback is a warm up period when first turned on, but after that all flows well.

Pros: This printer is very good and easy to use. Cons: The MP480 printer is a Slot machine because the refilled ink cartridge could not be used. This printer would NOT scan or do anything else if the ink cartridge is empty. And it works only with BRAND NEW ink cartridge.
