> 24 hourI tried to ignore the other reviews and just installed this mount right out of the box. Sure enough, my mobile radio couldn’t transmit at all. So I did what everyone else has to do, and disassembled the entire mount and used a dremmel to scrape powder coat and paint off every screw thread and washer; anywhere two pieces of the mount touched, I took the paint off. Then I put it back together and checked with a multi-meter to make sure there was continuity all the way through the mount. Finally I was able to re-install it and my radio worked. If you do not do this, your mount will absolutely not ground itself and your radio will not work. Otherwise, a great, versatile, and rugged piece of hardware.

> 24 hourOverall this is an okay mount, I use it with a CSB-770A antenna. This mount says it will ground using the set screws, but because they powder coat/pain every surface after machining the mount, you need to take the mount completely apart, and scratch paint on each section, so the connector will be grounded to the screws, which in turn are grounded to the car. Then you need to scrape pain on the car where the set screws make contact. Overall this takes about an hour, with a knife and an ohm meter. Once thats done, everything works well.

> 24 hourVery well made and worth the money. After breaking two knock off mounts I ordered this mount and have had no problems since. Mount is sturdy and locks into place once tightened down. Perfect for my jeep. The knockoff mounts do not do this. I wish I had purchased this mount in the beginning.

> 24 hourI had high expectations for this coming from comet. Usually they have good products, but not this one. I mounted this on my Nissan Altima trunk for an MFJ 1538. Initially it seemed to be working well, but after an electrical storm, my tyt 9800 receive was fried. No chump change in this loss. I then hooked up a cheap leixan and then that got fried. (This was after i had to get a replacement coax assembly from comet because that came apart) in neither case did i get directly hit by lightning. Turns out that after grounding the mount directly, the antenna would not function. Remove the ground and it works again. This test is the basis for my assessment. The mount system can only ground through the radio. So if you get any emp or surge, the cars chassis does not absorb, it goes through your radio and burns out whatever is in its way. I should have went with my first inclination to drill a 5/8 hole and direct mount like i did with my ford explorer and another MFJ 1538 for my yeasu ft8900r and avoided the price of this plus $400 in radio equipment. Save your money. Get something that grounds properly or direct mount your so-239 and NMA antennas.

> 24 hourPut this on my truck, on on the engine hood, a friend of mine recommended that I add a chassis ground wire to help make sure the antenna is grounded. I have had problems whatsoever with this.

> 24 hourThe core of the large friction washer broke out after less than a year installed on my 4Runner. Most of that time there was no antenna installed on the base (HF only occasionally) and it was even more rare for me to drive with it installed (ATAS-120A). I will be buying another one for parts to avoid having to completely tear apart my headliner to re-run cable, but I cannot recommend.

> 24 hourSo far it seems to be doing the job. I am not sure it has a good enough ground. Have not been able to check swrs yet either due to weather conditions. UPDATE: 4-4-17 This mount has caused my swrs to be the highest I have ever seen. I have raised and lowered the antenna and the swrs seem not to do anything...better or worse...it does nothing. The mounting screws are hitting bare metal so I guess it has a ground. Something isnt right, and it could be me, but I have had other mounts in the past, and this one does not seem to work with my dual band diamond antenna (2/440) As of now, I cant suggest this mount without knowing how to get a good ground to it. You will not get this problem with a mag-mount, which I guess I am going to have to get since this didnt work out. Total waste if money...it is missing a crucial ground and I dont know how to get it right.
