Had this for about a week and I’ve already made 3 20-22 inch chains in the Round Mail, Vipera Berus, and Byzantine weaves. The instructions are very easy to follow and the variety of ring sizes allows you to familiarize yourself with the materials while being able to make every pattern in the booklet. The pliers are very useful but I have to say that they tend to make your hands sore after prolonged use. The pliers could really use more padding or be more ergonomic despite that though I really can’t say enough good things about the kit itself.

I just received the package. When I opened it up I was really surprised at the amount of stuff packed inside the box. I even received two pliers for opening and closing the jump rings there is a little bag of fasteners to finish your project. Easy to follow directions and a handy little postcard with helpful info on it. It’s a very well thought out bundle. Well worth the price. Plus you can actually buy more jump ring’s from the same person.

Good beginners kit with a nice variety of jump rings. The box makes a good shipping container but is inadequate for storing weaves in progress. The bags of jump rings are not closable so you will need to get ziplock bags to store open bags. The book is somewhat good but really needs to be supplemented with more videos on Chainmail Joes YouTube channel which offers only a tour of the book.

My husband requested a chain maille kit for Christmas and this was the ONLY one of its kind that offered multiple ring sizes, an instruction booklet with multiple weaves, tools and findings. He was so excited and has already made several projects. I would recommend this for beginners and intermediates.

I love this product. I am learning patterns that I have been trying for a while. The pictures are excellent and the rings are great quality.

First off I want to say that I really liked this kit and wish I could give it 5 stars but one of the pliers wont close all the way without really squeezing hard and that is causing them to slip a lot or to drop the ring I am working on. You get so many rings with this kit that you will be able to practice the weaves in the book many times over. The only thing I wish was different in the book is in some of the weaves showing how to loop one ring through the others, i.e. with arrows showing directions, as I had to use Youtube to see how it was done. But I am happy I have the book I will always know what size ring to use for each weave in it.

I have mixed feelings about this and even contemplated returning it. I will talk about the book, rings, pliers, and value all separately. BOOK The book content is good. You can find all the weaves online, but having all of them in one place is really nice, especially for starting out. However, the binder on mine was incorrectly installed. The pages began falling out immediately. I had to spend an hour fixing the binder. RINGS I have never worked with jump rings before. So, I didn’t know what material to go with. Stainless steel seemed like a clear choice for durability and health. But, stainless steel is somewhat expensive. It is also darker than silver. Aluminum is closer to silver in appearance, but it oxidizes. The alloy of these rings is not suppose to oxidize or make your skin black. I washed the rings with soap and water and dried them. My finders still darkened after weaving a few inches of chain, but that seems to be from metal shavings from working the rings with pliers. The chain smells of regular raw aluminum, but I have not noticed any issue after wearing a piece made from these rings for 24 hours. They are very bright compared to stainless steel, maybe halfway between stainless steel and silver. PLIERS These are very cheap pliers, among the cheapest. They slip off rings quite often, leaving scratches and marks on rings. But, they are sufficient. I expect that parallel pliers may work much better. Pliers with plastic or a softer material on the jaws would prevent the rings from being damaged. VALUE I thought about returning this. I will upgrade the pliers. And, the book is less than $20 by itself. But, having all these different sizes of rings is really nice for practicing and for deciding what rings I like for different weaves and applications. Shopping for and buying all these different sizes would take a while and cost a far amount of money. CONCLUSION I recommend this for someone just starting out. If you dont know what ring sizes you want or if you want to experiment with many different sizes, this will work. It will save you a lot of time and money for that. If you know exactly what ring sizes you want, you may be better off buying them along with good pliers. This may be a good gift, but the book binding would be a very embarrassing issue for a gift. I don’t know if that was a one-off or rare issue. You may want to read reviews to see.

Sturdy metal, great price, and includes the tools. Also the instruction book is a $20.00 value alone. Easy to follow instructions for beginners with helpful advice on sizes for future purchases.
