CQENPR A Pair of Ethernet PoE Media Converter, Single Mode SC Single Core, Fiber PoE Converter, 10/100Mbps, Transmission Distance 20KM, IEEE802.3u, Plug and Play (1000Mbps)

Bought these to extend Ethernet to another building but it wasnt exactly what I was looking for. These media converters use a single strand of fiber rather than the typical pair, so TX and RX are combined over that single strand. In the end I picked up a pair of Cisco switches that had 10G LR SFP modules with the LC connectors Im used to and am using them instead. Not knocking these CQENPR converters, they work but they just werent what I was looking for.

We added a bank of cameras in the back of our 48,000 sq. ft. warehouse. This is my first time using fiber, but we ran the line and connected the two POE switches together with the fiber cable and successfully added 6 cameras in the back using CAT-6 lines from the backend POE switch. This solution works very well and was pretty much just plug and play with no configuration for the fiber portion of the run. I will be using these for any future runs.

This set of media converters is an excellent and affordable to extend the reach of your network if you only have 1 device you need to power and use. This particular set is designed for 1 Gbps RJ45 connectors on 1 side and SC connectors on the other. These operate on Single Mode Fiber and these particular units are rated at 3KM or about 1.8Miles. If you have 1 camera thats a mile away from your facility you could easily use this to bridge the gap.

I removed the fiber dust caps, connected a fiber jumper, and ran them to my poe switches. Speed test, ber test all ran clean. The little act leds flashed as they should. These work with one outside in sub-freezing weather (protected from moisture) and one in a slightly warm server rack. No problems found. I did not use the external power adapter socket but got power from power over ethernet from my switches. Recommended.

If you dont feel like paying for and programming a switch with SFPs on each end of a lengthy network run, these are a great solution. They can run on PoE at each end, or a barrel plug adapter that supplies anywhere between 12V and 48V (typical PoE range). I was able to confirm gigabit speeds with these 10/100/1000 Mbps adapters. These do use a single strand of single mode fiber, meaning they dont support full duplex communication, however this was not an issue for me. The fiber connections on these are SC Simplex female. Seeing as single mode fiber is able to carry a signal much farther than copper, these are just what you need for a lengthy run, like to connect two buildings. These are made of metal, and feel durable. They are small, and simple to tuck away. I feel no hesitation in recommending these.

I just installed my first POE security camera. I got these over a potential concern of the distance I might need to run between the camera and router. These units allow you to substitute Ethernet cable with optical fiber, which handles greater distances and at faster speeds. The initial installation was using Ethernet and the overall quality was acceptable. Then I switched the setup utilizing these converters and optical fiber, anticipating an improvement. Unfortunately... I did not notice any. In all fairness, that could be due to the camera. Now, that being said, I suspect it was due to my not encountering the great distance I anticipated when installing the camera. In other words... I dont think I really needed these converters after all. Still, my installing them did show how simple they are to use and they didnt hurt anything. There are other POE cameras I plan to install, a few of which will for sure require long runs. Having already used these converters without a hitch, I will certainly try them again.

If youre a networking professional then these are exactly what it says on the tin, and good quality. To everyone that might be confused, these are kind of like magic. Im just spanning a small distance, but one where I cant run an ethernet cable. This let me run a fiber optic cable (thinner, non-metallic, more heat-resistant) and its fully transparent. the computer at the other end thinks its connected directly to the switch (or router) and its working like magic.
