Purchased this to pair with a Late 2013 15 MacBook Pro Retina. I chose this monitor, as opposed to the U2414H, because it has a DVI connector and I didnt want to deal with the Mac thinking it was a TV, which has been reported with other monitors that only support HDMI or DisplayPort. I was able to plug this Dell into my MiniDisplayPort to DVI Apple adapter without issue and the Mac recognized the full resolution right away. The model number is U2412M rev. A01 manufactured in June 1014. Many have reported problems with a yellow tint to this monitor and they found it to be unacceptable. I was afraid that I might also be one of those people. When compared with the MacBook Retina screen (which is much higher quality) the Dell did seem to have a yellow tint. I tried to use the Apple color calibration tools and the settings on the display to correct it, but I could never find the right adjustments to get it to look right. I thought I might have to return it and try my luck with a different panel, but I was able to find a color profile on http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/icc_profiles.htm that worked very well. I am not sure that it completely eliminated the yellow tint, but it did pull the display colors more in line with the Retina panel and that was really all I was looking for. It looks great now and I dont notice a yellow tint anymore. I am not a photo or graphic artist so I am not hung up on calibration per say, but I dont want to be distracted by stark color differences when starring at both screens. The ICC profile did the trick for me. So far... I am a happy owner.

Please note: If you average out the reviews during the most recent 15 month period the average customer review falls well bellow its lifetime average of 4.5 stars. The monitor went through a redesign and is no longer the monitor it once was. We just received 2 Dell UltraSharp U2412M monitors at my company (Rev A01). One has the yellow background tint problem that many reviewers have referred to and the other does not. These were purchased through a corporate supply chain contract and not through Amazon. Thus, the yellow background tint problem is not specific to Dell Monitors supplied by Amazon. We have done some side by side comparisons of older monitors versus newer ones. The older monitors that we purchased prior to mid 2013 are sufficiently bright when set at 67-77 depending on the external lighting. The newer monitors that we have recently received need to be set at 95-100 in order for the brightness to be sufficient. This is with or without the yellow background tint problem. Dell clearly changed the design specifications on this model by designing-out components and reducing the brightness in the process. The yellow background tint is most likely an unintended consequence of lowering those specifications. A relatively easy way to save money if youre a design engineer at Dell but not even close to the monitor it once was if YOU ARE A REPEAT CUSTOMER and can make side by side comparisons of old versus new. Or should I say WAS A REPEAT CUSTOMER. We are returning both of these monitors and will not be ordering any more of them. We order dozens of monitors each year and so I hope Dell takes notice. You can reduce costs thus impacting image quality. Maybe for those who dont have any of the older monitors in front of them its not apparent. But in the case of our company we have many of the older monitors and when placed side by side with the newer ones it is very obvious that this is not even close to the monitor it once was. NEC MultiSync EA244WMi: If you can afford an extra $100 the NEC MultiSync EA244WMi is the monitor to get. You can get it for around $365. Its got excellent contrast and instead of a matte finish like the Dell the screen has a semi-gloss finish. The semi gloss finish is more than enough to eliminate screen glare while theres less grainyness and thus a sharper picture than the Dell. You will especially notice the difference if you read a lot of text. Read the reviews on B&H photo in addition to those on Amazon. PCMag rates it the top 24 monitor for 2014. Its superior to the Dell. Additionally its got a 3 year warranty and NEC stands behind their warranty. Many reviews have had problems getting warranty service for Dell products purchased through Amazon. You wont have that problem with NEC. Their warranty is legit and they have a good reputation for honoring it. The ASUS PA248Q is a fine monitor if text sharpness is not as important to you. However, if you will be reading a lot of text you will find that the text on the ASUS is a bit fuzzy compared to the Dell. As previously mentioned, the best of both worlds is the NEC MultiSync EA244WMi: Sharper text, better colors, web pages are sharper. Just all around the NEC is the one to get if you dont mind paying the extra $100.

Great monitor, IPS is on point. The LED on the monitor can be a little bright if you keep them in a dark room, but its easy to fix if it bugs you. The colors and quality are one of the best Ive ever seen. Ive been running three of these together for a few years now, and I believe it to be a problem with my AMD graphics card at first but I did have some issues driving three of these in Windows. Being a 1920x1200 monitor, almost everything worked just fine but occasionally you do come across a game that stretches or doesnt look right even when proper display settings are in place. Thats probably because almost everything is built for 1920x1080, youll definitely run into times where you find wallpapers for 1920x1080 wallpaper sizes only but its not so much of a problem now. I would have given these monitors 5 stars but there are just a few quirks that leave me unable to do that. There is a tiny tiny bit of latency being that it is IPS and that cant really be helped being that this an IPS monitor so you should know what youre getting into. If I reviewed this a few months ago I would have considered the 5 stars, but it seems that Dell has really dropped the ball with something regarding these monitors because there is an issue with Windows 10 (possibly just the November 15 update and beyond) regarding EDID support I believe, or something where this monitor gets knocked into 640x480 and the only way to fix it is to unplug the power for a bit and replug it in. It sounds like user error but if you search for this monitors model number followed by Windows 10, youll see people having issues with this specific monitor. I believe the 12 in the model number (U2412M) designates 2012, as in this is a 2012 model - so keep that in mind that it appears that Dell has several successors now. For its time it was a star and must have, but that time has moved on now.

When I was deciding on a monitor, the whole Dell UltraSharp line was brought up again and again. Its safe to say they have a reputation for quality monitors. Of course, they come at a premium. Id imagine some people wonder what that premium gets. Well, to be fair, I dont necessarily think this will be worth it versus lower-priced competitors for everyone, but it was for me. Here are the things that sold me on this monitor, (and that it delivers in use), in order of importance to me: 1) The wide viewing angle. I can be a bit of a slouch at the computer. My old 23 inch monitor, a fairly inexpensive one, had a smaller viewing angle, so that if I slouched, it appeared darker. No such issue with this Dell. You dont have to get yourself in just the right spot. This is really nice for practical reasons, but of course encourages bad posture on my part! 2) Great Stand The stand on this thing is awesome. It goes way up and way down. It tilts to vertical. Its stable as can be. On my cheap Ikea desk, my typing would cause my old monitor on its flimsy stand to jiggle a bit. No such issue here. 3) Aspect Ratio The monitor is 1920x1200, instead of the now more-common 1920x1080. This gives some more pixels of height to the screen. If your focus is movies, perhaps this isnt the best thing (although its a minor issue at worst). For my personal uses of gaming, browsing the web, and working, that is great extra space, plain and simple. 4) Colors! Pretty simple, the Dell delivers rich, accurate colors. A lot of this depends on ones calibrations, but the Dell makes my old monitor, side-by-side, look much more washed out than I ever realized it was. So those were my key points. The Dell has delivered flawlessly on them. Is it worth it for everyone? Not necessarily. Is my older 23 inch monitor still capable of delivering a perfectly nice experience? Sure. In the end, though, you are getting what you pay for with this monitor. Thats not in question.

Very fast delivery! Easy, easy, easy set up in terms of getting the monitor out of the box, plugged in and on. Thats when it got dicey. The color was impossible to adjust. BLINDINGLY BRIGHT BLUE tint on text or white background pages. Video and darker pages were really muddy. After an hour or more of going through the entire range of (limited) user adjustment combinations, I swapped out the video cable that came with the monitor and used one of mine. Things immediately got better. Even so, it took another hour to find the exact settings that didnt blind me with the white background pages or totally obscure darker pages and videos. Ive found settings that are OK for casual use but will make anyone crazy who is looking for any shred of color fidelity. Refresh rate is a bit slow. Fine for most viewing but way too slow for gaming or lengthy viewing of high motion activity. This is a You get what you pay for situation. Not the cheapest monitor in the world, but it does have a sound bar option. Its lightweight, fully adjustable in terms of height and tilt, supports legacy VGA and Displayport which makes it suitable for business or home office use. No HDMI which could be an issue for consumer use. I was in the middle of a big project for work when my home office monitor died a sudden and horrid death. The fast delivery, the tolerable performance and the low cost mean that I wont return it. After all, the monitor did get me back to work. On the other hand, Im not likely to buy another one or recommend it. 9-11-14 Update. When I finally got a Displayport cable (multiple cables came in the box but not a Displayport - go figure), the color issues were resolved. So, I.ve raised my rating to 4 stars and, yes, I would recommend this monitor. The color gamut caveats cited by other reviewers reply, but the color is good enough for text, Web surfing and watching videos.

I have always enjoyed my Dell flat-screens and felt they were a grade above the alternatives in build quality. As an IT professional I get hands on with many others and have not seen or used one that I preferred to my Dell. However, my Dell monitors have always been purchased by my employer, at significant expense. So when I needed a monitor due to taking a new job I went to work trying to find one that I would be happy with. When I came across this one I was very happy to see that there was an option to have another Dell that would meet my needs, that I could afford. I was very tempted to step up and buy the more expensive model to get the claimed color accuracy but am satisfied that I did not. After using this monitor for a month, I am very satisfied with it. The screen is definitely larger than the one I was using before, I thought it was a 24 as well but perhaps not. I am very happy that it is 1920x1200. It pairs perfectly with my Dell 2007FP which is 1600x1200. The 1680x1050 I was using before always annoyed me that it was larger but with lower resolution, I never understood that trend in the industry. This monitor is notably brighter and whiter than the Dell2007FP it sits next too. Out of the box I had to reduce the brightness, it was just too much. In summary I will say unless you are a professional in need of perfect color matching, I cannot see a reason that you would be disappointed with this monitor.

    Greater than one week

I purchased two of these. One of them had a stuck pixel cluster and a pea sized bright spot near the center of the screen. I returned that one and the replacement arrived with two dark pixel clusters. On any background but a black background the dark pixel clusters look like the monitor is dirty or has a smudge....tried to clean the screen multiple times but the dark spots are still there. Evidently Dell doesnt consider it an issue unless you have 6 or more of these spots but an ultrasharp monitor should be better than this. I can understand one bad monitor but now the replacement has issues too. Very annoying. The 2nd of the first two I purchased doesnt have any issues. Other than the pixel cluster issue the colors are great and the monitors perform as expected. UPDATE: After more research the dark spots on the replacement monitor are actually smudges/fingerprints/dust etc. between the layers of the monitor. That is why it looks like a smudge but you cant clean it. It is behind the top layer. This has to be a quality control issue during assembly. Pros: Great color and excellent picture Cons: Quality control issues/stuck pixels/smudges between layers My Settings: I have used both the standard and color temp control. My favorite settings are the color temp mode set to 5700K, brightness at 35 and contrast at 75. I have also used the same brightness and contrast with the standard preset mode and like that too. The brightness comes set at 75 which is way too high in my opinion. Great color reproduction and no eye strain with these settings. I did find the 6500K color temp setting too red for some colors and that is why I settled on the 5700K.

I specifically targeted a 16:10 monitor to get the extra 120 pixels of height that the 1080p does not give (1920 wide x 1080 high for the 1080p vs. 1920 wide x 1200 high for the 24 class 16:10); because I had used the Dell 2410 at work for 9 months and became very attached to the vast expanse of working area and the high image quality. Ive been waiting for the prices to come out of the stratosphere, and was pleasantly surprised that it was the Dell U2412M which was the first I could find to dip below the $300 mark. An extra $150 for only an extra 120 pixels in height (as compared to the $150 23 1080p)? You betcha! I work with and proofread documents and engineering drawings; and my wife is a consulting nurse who juggles dozens of tasks on her screens. We both LOVE our 24 monitors with the extra pixel real estate. We bought THREE (3). My wife was more than a bit skeptical about the value for such an outlay of money; but after she got set up with her 24 Ive heard no complaints. I intended to use two at work, but made the mistake of setting up one on my home computer to test it out. I hasnt moved since. Looks like I will be getting a fourth U2412M to replace the 23 1080p at work, which sits alongside my other U2412M. The latter makes my nice 23 seem like a piece of junk: The difference in working real estate between the two seems like a lot more than the numbers (1080 vs 1200) would make you think. Setup was easy. Colors are nicer than my other monitors and are easily adjustable. Instructions for setup and adjustment were clear and simple. I am not a dead pixel hunter, so cannot comment on that aspect, other than to say I dont see anything amiss and the display looks GREAT! The monitor is a few pounds heavier than the featherweight 23-inchers I have been buying lately. This could be a blessing or a curse: The U2412M is more stable, but you need both hands to lift it or adjust height (speaking of which, the height is very easy to instantly adjust). The only downside comment I can muster is that there is no HDMI connection, so DVI-D is the only way to get the excellent quality video this monitor was built to deliver. If there was a 4.5 star rating, I would downgrade to that for the missing HDMI, but it is not enough to downgrade to 4 stars. My wife and I are both using Sapphire Radeon HD video cards (one an HD6850 and one an HD7850) to run dual monitors. Either card has (among other connections) two DVI-D ports, and will run two large monitors in clone view or extended desktop modes beautifully. This is a great monitor, and now you can get it at a great price!

Seeing as the U2412M is so highly regarded, my expectations were quite high. I was originally set on the U2415, but was turned away due to many complaints about issues with daisy-chaining. 27 is too large for my desk, and I wanted an IPS over a 120Hz TN. I seriously considered the ASUS PA248Q, but felt it was targeted more so for artists. So I decided to go with this tried-and-true monitor. Obviously its better than most (all?) TN panels. The colors are great, and really shows off photographs well. If anything its a bit warm for my tastes. The matte screen does not appear to be thick or grainy at all. My biggest annoyance with it is the glow, which is very noticeable in the lower left and right corners on black and dark pictures. I suppose it is just an unfortunate characteristic of these types of monitor, although Ive seemed to have gotten used to it. I kind of wish it had HDMI and USB 3.0 ports, but I knew they were absent when I purchased it. The bezel is fairly large by todays standards, and not really ideal for multi-monitor setups. Im currently using it in a dual monitor setup with my older Acer 19 TN panel. By comparison, the Dell is very bright, even on lower levels, and the colors are far more accurate. Im really enjoying the large screen real-estate. I cant imagine working on one small screen again. All in all Im happy with it, but just not as impressed as I thought I was going to be.

The quality of the monitor is excellent regarding functionality. It has the best controls that I have seen on monitors that I have used. The quality of the pictures is excellent (4 out of 5 stars), but the quality of the text is 3 out of 5 stars. I guess I got spoiled with the quality of retina displays on Apple products that is not available on PCs. My test consists of writing the word milling or optimum using Arial font. With anything at or below 7 pt. size, the i and the l become a blur. You could improve this by 50% spending $500 to $600 for a better monitor that also may require an upgrade on your video card depending on the capabilities of your current card. The only other negative that did not affect me much is the lack of HDMI port. For now I will keep the monitor and check the 4K resolution monitors once the prices come down since that move will require a video card upgrade. I bought the monitor from Amazon on August 10 2014 and the manufacturing date is June 2014, Revision A01. I have not seen any of the yellow tint mentioned by other reviewers. CORRECTION: I guess that is the problem with all the reviews. Many times what we report as a defective product is a result of our own mistakes. I connected the monitor to my laptop and the text resolution is much better. I have what is supposed to be a powerful video card on my desktop (Nvidia GTX 285) and the laptop is producing sharper text than the desktop. Tested with different cables and monitors and the result is the same. So My issue is with the video card. I increased the monitor rating from 3 to 4 stars. Is not 5 stars because I can see the granularity of the pixels. Something that could be better in more expensive monitors with pixel size of 0.23mm instead of the 0.27mm this monitor has. I am still keeping the monitor because of the price/performance ratio. I would recommend it if you want to stay under $275 for a 24 monitor. UPDATE 16 Sep 2014: Exactly a month and 10 days after purchasing the monitor the DVI-D input stopped working. I had one computer and two laptops each connected to one of the 3 inputs available in the monitor. The VGA and DisplayPort inputs continue working but the DVI-D does not work any more. Because it is over a month I cannot exchange it with Amazon. Called DELL customer support and they will replace it with a refurbished unit. My customer satisfaction is going down hill. I will not buy another monitor from Amazon unless I add an extended warranty which typically is not recommended to get anyway. I will think twice if I ever plan to purchase a large screen TV from Amazon since I will be running the same risk.
