Bought this Projector with the hopes of creating a home theater. While I have gone back and started redoing the walls for the theatre room, while this was up the picture quality was awesome and the video brightness was acceptable in the normal/eco modes. It has plenty of inputs, and the remote worked well. They Keystone also worked amazingly well for when I had sat the projector at a funky angle. It was able to throw it on the wall at an angle, compensate and make it nearly level/flush. The one issue with doing this is that it slightly goes out of focus because of it throwing further in certain corners. I did not leave it like that, but I used it for a few days like that. Noise wise, it isnt bad at all. To me it just sounds like a quiet fan, Im not worried about it, but would definitely consider building a box with fabric on the inside that would dampen the noise for a purely theatre feel. IT DOES 3D. Bought some cheap 3D glasses (active) and they were recognized by the projector. Also had to fiddle with the blu-ray player to get passive 3D to work. Both types worked for me. The quality is very good considering the price point. I personally could not understand wanting to spend more money for a projector with the same features and maybe slightly further throw distance. When I was working for AT&T as a wire technician I would see many types of projectors in use. I feel like I have saved a lot of money because many of the customers paid multiple thousands for a projector with no significant quality difference in my opinion. Remote works well from various angles.

I have had this since since around late 2017 and the bulb just went out today (May 2020)! I am going to order a replacement bulb from epsons online store as I have read comments and most cheaper replacements bulbs are crap. I do find it odd how they do not sell elplp88 thru amazon. Side note: the replace your bulb light came on maybe for like ~6 months? something like that. but i am still happy with this decision. I thought about a TV or a projector and it works for me since Im a student and have to move a lot. Lastly, it does make it nice for entertaining purposes as it creates a unique experience (simply put tv vs projector). I did find this (https://www.amazon.com/EPSV13H010L88-Replacement-Projector-PowerLite-955WH/dp/B00UPWWM4A) which says it is sold by epson but its around $30 cheaper than on epson.com which is nice but also sketchy as they do not have any amazon reviews. I did click the sellers link (Epson) and it takes you to the Amazon Epson page which i used before, but i dont want to deal with a possible return during a pandemic.

********** This is my first review. Wants to be helpful. No one paid me for this review *********** Great customer service – Amazon ============================== Purchased Epson 2040 from Amazon on Prime day sale for $499. Used for 35 days. Noticed focus issue on 35 th day. Yes its too late. Amazons return policy is 30 days. Called amazon customer service and explained the problem. Customer service person was very helpful and gave me options of refund or replacement. I chosen replacement option as its best deal for such a wonderful projector. Amazon shipped new projector with two day shipping for same price even though I am not a prime member now. Great customer service amazon About Epson 2040 ================= I was using LG PA75U 720P LED projector for past 4 years which stopped working recently. I was in the search of new projector. Based on my need and hours of research, I short listed two projectors - Epson 2040 and Benq HT2050. I was able to compare both projectors side by side during day & night and with lights on/off. Though Benq HT2050 had slightly higher rating both from users and professional reviewers, I decided to go with Epson 2040 for below reasons Lower price (Epson - $499 vs Benq - $650 ) during my search for projectors Brighter and sharper image Watchable even during daytime with windows open Image is too bright (even in ECO mode) during nighttime even with lights on Longer lamp life (7500 hours in ECO mode) Cheaper lamp replacement cost ( $70 to $90 ) Portable and light weight Convenient lens cover Lower fan noise 2 year warranty I would recommend Epson 2040 if your requirements are like mine Wants to have 100 inch or larger HDTV Wants to have brighter and best picture Wants to use projector in living room Wants to use projector with lights on Wants to use projector during daytime or night time Wants to use projector as HDTV Wants to use projector 4 or more hours every day Does not want to spend half of the projector cost to replace its lamp

I bought this after doing a moderate amount of research. It seemed like the right projector for me at this reasonable price point (I picked mine up for $650, but it seems to fluctuate on Amazon), and after a week of regular use Im pretty satisfied. There is one area this projector is severely lacking in though, and that is black levels. Ignoring the insane numerical contrast ratios that Epson likes to throw around, I can tell you that this is clearly the biggest weakness. Before purchasing, I read a few reviews and comments praising the black performance, but Im here to tell you this is incorrect, and probably sourced from people who are easily pleased. For most families and first time projector owners, it will be fine. But as a designer and photographer who scrutinizes and edits digital images all day, Im a little let down. I did a little more research and it would appear that this is a LCD projector technology limitation. You can find a few projector models in the sub $800 price range that have slightly improved blacks, but those are DLP. Im sticking with my 2040 because of the brightness, colors, and because Ill never have to deal with the rainbow effect on DLP projectors. Its also great for gaming, with the lowest lag time Ive found in this price range. I have taken a few steps to improve the ambient light in my room, hoping it will deepen the blacks. Draped black fabric above and to the sides of the screen seems to help a little because it cuts down on reflected light back on the screen, but dark scenes still struggle a little and tend to look gray and washed out. Do not be fooled by reviewers who dont know what to look for in an image. For the average Joe or anyone who wants a beautifully sharp and vibrant image, as well as the ability to blow up movies to insane screen sizes... This is a great purchase. Id recommend the 2040 if you arent willing to shell out $200-$300 more for deeper blacks.

Upgraded from a viewsonic 720p, mainly because my wife got the rainbow effect from it, so I got this on sale looked like it was only one day at $499, the fan in regular mode is by far louder then the viewsonic but not to bad in eco mode, i am getting a clicking noise in the unit that has me concerned, woundering if it is normal? Also the throw for the two projectors was way off i had to get in the roof and rerun all the wires 3-4 feet closer to fit my canvas screen, but with picture quality difference it is a non issue, acually like where it sits installed. So all in all the projector seems great, (have had it about a week) but losses a star because of the (fan sound? Chirping) sound that i am not sure it is normal and worring about it breaking. Hopefully i will get a response about it..

This projector is the first Ive ever purchased. I did a decent amount of research before hand but I was still unsure exactly what to expect. I dont have a proper home theater room. The walls are white, I can shut the blinds and close the door.. but thats it. I purchased a Silver Ticket 92 screen to go with this. First off . .maybe the works in a bright room claims are exaggerated. Perhaps compared to other projectors. Compared to a regular tv, though, this projector is highly susceptible to light. That being said, I find it watchable, with the blinds closed, at all but the brightest parts of the day. The second big question in my mind was the black level . .how bad were they? Pretty bad, actually. Even at night, with the blinds and doors closed, dark scenes are noticeably washed out. If you only watch movies it could be a deal breaker, otherwise its probably OK. . but its noticeable. The color is great. Bright scenes pop with lots of detail. There is not a lot of blurring. Sports look really good. .Ive watched basketball and golf so far - there are some issues but its a very enjoyable viewing experience. Watching golf, for example, theres some blur when the ball is moving fast but, for chips and putts, the ball is tracked pretty well. Its kind of in between my old Pioneer Kuros Plasma and my new Samsung LCD. There is less detail and not as good blacks as the Kuros, but more natural looking than the Samsung. Last things - cartoons, web content and video games. This thing is amazing for all of the above. Cartoons look absolutely amazing - if you have little kids they will be jaws-on-the-foor. Netflix and Amazon video seem to look even better than my cable HD. Its great for video games. I have no comparison as this is my first projector but we use it a lot for PS3 games and I cant tell any difference in response time from the lcd tv we used to have it hooked up to. Last last things . .the price! For the price it is . .it is a cant miss. Even if its not everything you ever wanted in a projector, its great and if youre looking to get your first projector you wont be sorry. You can watch anything on it - from movies to cartoons to video games. The replacement bulbs are cheap. I bought a screen but it looks good just on the wall. My kids, in fact, insist that we do movie night on the wall because it can be bigger. Im pretty amazed at what such an inexpensive projector can do.

I have 3,000 hours on the bulb that came with this, its used heavily. The picture is fantastic on my 9 screen, its a stationary screen with a black felt border. I can see every hair and every pore on faces with a Blu-Ray, Netflix, or any 1080P source. Works great with the PS4, great for games. Easy to use menus, nice remote. Very bright for a theatre projector, brighter than the $4,000 Sony projector I replaced with this one. DO NOT buy a universal mount, dont be cheap, fork over the money for the Epson mount. I bought a cheap $20 universal mount and upon installation immediately purchased the Epson mount (which was $120 I believe?) The Epson mount is solid, quality built, and much easier to use and setup.

Picture is great. Projector is small. No lens shift on this model which I didnt think was a big deal because I will just use the keystones to adjust the picture. You can do this, but be aware that when you use the keystones to adjust the picture there will be a slight ghosting effect where the picture was located. I couldnt live with this and ended up dropping the projector down far enough from the ceiling to keep from using the keystone adjustments. I wish I would have purchased a unit with lens shift. The only other con is it does have a noticeable fan noise and generate enough heat to change the temperature in a 200 sq ft room.

This is my first projector. I love electronics, but would not consider myself to be hardcore about the quality, so I am sure there are better projectors than this, but I cant imagine a better one from a cost to value measure. I did a ton of research on projectors (including reviews here at Amazon, thanks to everyone else) and chose this model because it was going into a room that wouldnt be completely dark (so the 2200 lumens was a positive) and video games were going to be played (this model has an incredibly low lag time). My original goal was to put up a fixed screen either 110 or 120 inches away, so I mounted it at a distance that would work for both and played with the zoom to compare sizes before ordering the screen. I was just projecting on to the wall that was not painted with special paint and the projector had not been fine tuned, just pulled it out of the box and plugged it in. As I was comparing the sizes I kept marveling at how great the picture was just on the wall and decided to save a few bucks and skip the screen. I have had friends and family over to watch sports and movies and constantly ask their opinion on if they think a screen is needed and no one has said yes. The best compliment I have received is one buddy said he just assumed I had used a special paint. We have only been in the house 30 days, so we have a few repairs to to do in the basement. Once completed I will post some photos to show the quality.

This projector has a lot going for it, and some drawbacks as well. Lets jump right in: Brightness: Very bright. The color brightness is just as bright as the whites since its a 3 chip projector. DLPs cant make that same claim, though some come close (RGBRGB models). Contrast: Sub-par, even for the under $1,000 category. DLP projectors will beat this one every time with black levels and contrast. Positioning: This projector gives you both vertical and horizontal keystone for ease of setup, though using this will make the image less sharp since its not using all of the pixels when the keystone is used. Most people wont notice, however. Pixel fill: The lines between the pixels are the thickest and most noticeable on 3LCD projectors. In other words, on DLP and LCoS projectors, you sit slightly closer to the screen without seeing pixel structure. Colors: Colors are fantastic, and have a lot of pop to them. 3LCD projectors excel with bright colors. Animated films look great! Noise: In eco-mode, its not very noticeable. In normal mode, youll notice it on quiet movie scenes for sure. Extra features: This projector has some features not typically found on entry level models. These include frame interpolation (smooth motion for sports, etc) and detail enhancement, which makes images appear sharper using special video processing. While it may seem a lot of my review was negative, this is a really good choice for an entry level projector. For those who havent seen better blacks on a projected image, they probably wont even notice the not-so-great blacks, but will be amazed at the huge, colorful, full HD image on their wall or screen. Another plus is that, unlike other lower end (and lower resolution) Epson models, this has an audio out port for those who take advantage of the portability of this projector and take it outside or to a friends house for movie night. I believe if Epson produced a projector like this one, but had blacks as good as the 8350 (not the best, but very respectable), they would overcome the only serious weakness of this model and sales would higher than Im sure they are now. Regardless, this a solid choice for those looking to get in on the big screen action at home.

The Home Cinema 2040 projector brings the big screen home, delivering Full HD 1080p entertainment. This portable performer delivers up to 35,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, advanced image processing, plus 2200 lumens of color brightness and 2200 lumens of white brightness (2). Enjoy movies, games and more with two HDMI ports and MHL (3) connectivity. Connect your Blu-ray Disc player, gaming console or streaming device, and project up to 300" virtually anywhere. A built-in speaker and convenient setup tools mean you can enjoy HD content out of the box.
