Freud 42-104: 1/2 (Dia.) Bearing Flush Trim Bit

I like Freud products. Last better than a lot of others.

Look. . . Im not the best woodworker in the world. I built a cabinet and it ended up being about an 1/8th inch out of square. Not enough to have to redo it, but, the slight overhang of the top and the door were eyesores. So, I ordered this and bing, bang boom, within about 30 seconds, no one was any wiser. I know that is the not the intended purpose, but it worked for me. In the future, I will be better about ripping plywood straight with a circular saw than trying to rip it on my table saw! Anyway, this bit saved me!!!

Works really well and keeps everything straight and aligned.

Nice flush bit, does a great job

Freud makes top quality tools, and this bit is no exception. This bit cuts very cleanly and is so sharp it makes shavings (not dust) when I cut with it. If you look in the picture you will see the shavings and the super clean and smooth cut the bit made in end grain rock maple. The bit I received cuts perfectly flush and does not have the problem that some other reviewers have reported. of the bearing and cutting edges not lining up.

This bit has been perfect for forming 3/4” hardwood. It’s very sharp with a great bearing and I expect to use it for a long time.

Freuds carbide bites stay sharp and hold up longer than bargin bits, worth the money with cleaner cuts.

Im giving the bit itself 5 stars. This is my first Freud bit, I wanted to start small and cheap to decide for myself whether all the hype over Freud bits is true...it is! The bearing is silky smooth, the cut is clean and burr free and the edge stay sharp, what else could you want!? As for the product description, watch out. The Amazon description claims you will get a two flute bit and a three flute bit...I figured, not a bad price for two bits. What actually arrived?...a single, two flute bit. After chatting with customer service, he agreed the description did indeed reference a two bit(pardon the pun) set, and agreed to send a replacement. The replacement, another single two flute bit...after talking again, Amazon agreed to refund $5 to my CC and allow me to keep both bits(the original and the replacement). So in the end, I got two bits for ~8, not bad, but Im not sure if theyd do the same again. So, bit quality, a resounding 5 stars, product description, 1 star, Amazon CS, 5 stars...sounds like a 4 star average to me!

This is a great tool. Keep it clean and the bearing greased and it will last a very long time. I highly recommend it.

I mostly use Freud router bits and only use 1/2 shanks. The 1/2 shanks simply provide better centricity as they dont flex or bend under normal use. While I mostly use Freud, I have used some Yonico, Rockler and Diablo (also made by Freud) and have found little difference. So Id say unless the price is close, go with any of the listed brands.
