I have been using Garmin for several years now to track my running (road and Trail), cycling (road and mtb) and swimming (pool and open water). I debated long and hard about going to the Fenix 5x and compared to the latest comparable Suunto products and other Garmin products (935), but in the end decided to stay with Garmin and the Fenix. I’ve had the forerunner 310 and 920 and found them solid and reliable. The only real issues I’ve had were operator created issues...if Garmin could just read my mind that would be great so tracking could start when I forget. 1 week into using the Fenix and I really am impressed with the Fenix. I’ve had it outside running, on the treadmill, in the pool and tracking my indoor bike training sessions...there has been a slight learning curve, but I have been able to jump right in and use the Fenix and it has performed flawlessly. One of the benefits of getting the Fenix 5x a year after its launch is that many of the bugs and issues I saw others report seem to be worked out. GPS picks up incredibly fast and tracking has been accurate. It is heavier than my 920 which I’m adapting to. I was also worried about the screen resolution, but so far I have found it clear and easy to read. I have used some screen faces and custom fields that were too small for me to see comfortably, but I just switch to something more friendly to my eye sight. I will likely provide another update after using the Fenix 5x for the next few months of a busy race (run and Tri) season.

This is my third Garmin watch in about ten years. I was a little nervous to buy it refurbished but I couldnt justify the price of a new one. Its great because I cant tell the difference. It looks and acts brand new. It has a lot more activity options than Im used to which is fun. I havent used them all. I mainly use walk, bike, and run, which have worked flawlessly. Eager to try strength, hike, and the navigation tool. I use the GPS every single day on an evening walk and I have only really had to charge it once in the week that I have been wearing it. Still, I could have probably gone a few more days without charging yet. The battery is great, in my opinion. The watch is built tough. Its not too heavy but you can definitely feel it. Its a good size and weight for what I would call a medium sized wrist. Not to mention the watch is just beautifully designed. It came with two rubber straps that I didnt think I would like but honestly I do. They are great. I bought a black stainless steel band to wear to work and it makes the watch look professional. If you are on the fence just do it. I love this watch.

Currently only reviewing the look of the product along with basic functions. I bought this as a gift for my wife. After she has used it for different sports and activities for a while I will review. I have the Fenix 5X Sapphire to compare along with it. Initial review is 5 out of 5. Very clean, no noticable scratches or smudges. Even came the original charger and booklets, with the bonus of an extra quick changing watch strap!

The watch has some really good features especially the garmin maps. You can set way points of places you have been then go back to them whenever you want. The hr monitor and sleep monitor seem very accurate. It pretty much records everything you do, tracks steps, mileage and great for training. You can see all your previous runs or bikes on the app. The watch battery lasts 2-3 weeks between charges and that is with biking or running 5-6 days a week which is pretty good I think. The watch is a little big but it does have tons of features. It would be nice to have a touch screen to move thru the maps faster. The only bad thing is the first watch I bought started to have this really loud annoying internal buzzing/screeching when it vibrated like something broke loose inside of it. Which is kind of bad since its such an expensive watch. Of course this happened about 10 days after my 30 day return period. So I called garmin and they were only willing to send a me a refurbished watch when I sent mine to them which was kind of a bummer since I had just bought a new watch 40 days ago. I was just about to send it garmin but decided to call amazon help desk first to see if maybe they had any ideas how to fix it. They didnt but they were willing to send me a new watch even though it was over the 30 day return period which I thought was fantastic! And I didnt expect that. So far the new watch is working great and actually gives me little tips about how to use the watch better which the old watch never did. I dont know if I will ever buy another garmin watch but if I do Im definitely buying it from Amazon!

I love so many features of this product, but hate the stress program on it. On my watch the heart rate sensor and the stress program that is based off of heart rate variability does not work properly. I have contacted Garmin three different times and either no resolution or no response to them. I was told the first time I contacted them regarding this that could be a sensor error and they would get back with me. Two months later and I have tried contacting them 2 more times with absolutely no response. I can do a hard reset of the entire watch and the feature will work for 3-5 days before malfunctioning again. I really do not want to have to hard reset my watch constantly and lose all the other customization. Because of this error I am not sure how much I can trust other features of the watch. If this feature worked and Garmin had responded to my problems I would probably have given this product a 5 star rating but not happy with the watch or the customer service at this point. The sensor problem finally resolved with latest update. Now i LOVE the watch!!

Garmin continues to impress me with the level of quality in the product the more I use it and get used to its features. The only reason this product is getting 4 stars is because of the price point; I am used to paying around $200 for fitness watches/trackers but I decided this time around to get something with more features and durability. I have been a Fitbit user since 2014 with the Flex, then Surge, then Blaze and I decided that I would switch to Garmin after I purchased my husband the Garmin fenix 5X. After tinkering around with his watch and the app interface, I decided to upgrade from my 1.5 year old Blaze due to sheer number of functions it couldnt perform and I was not happy with it anymore. Once I got my watch, it was a hard adjustment, as with any brand-to-brand switch. In addition to the non-touch screen interaction, I had to familiarize myself with activity selection and start/stop buttons as well as data review functions. If you are making a drastic switch like I did, I recommend setting quite a bit of time aside to familiarize yourself with this watch as well as the Garmin Connect app. This watch is VERY customizable; there are so many things you can change to your liking that it is overwhelming (coming from a Fitbit user). I really like this aspect but it takes some getting used to. You can also customize the band; this particular package comes with a yellow band as a bonus. I do not have the intention of using this color, I actually ordered the turquoise band from Garmin. The watch itself is very sturdy feeling and has some weight to it (rugged). I prefer the round face versus the square with my old Fitbit; it just looks better in my opinion. The 5 buttons on the side of the watch feel very good when you press them. You can choose whether or not to have haptic feedback when you press the buttons as well as a tone/chime; I have both enabled. The watch face is obviously customizable as well, you dont use the pre-loaded one like Fitbit, you have the ability to download more from the Garmin Connect app and even further customize it (colors and data displayed). With the same app, you can also download widgets and add them to your watch and the order they appear. I got this watch just in time for a class I am now participating in; RIP = running improvement program. I have only ran with this watch 3 times since I got it about 1.5 weeks ago. The GPS is not exact, I was running 1.5-mile run test and it gave me my 1-mile time about 75m too soon. I am not too finicky with the distance difference. What really sent me over the moon was the VO2 max as well as the heart rate zones; not only will track this for you but based on this data it will suggest a rest time (usually 24-48 hours for me). I also loaded a yoga activity function on this watch as well; it tracked my heart rate as well as time spent in this activity. I have not tried the golfing function on this yet but I intend to use it whenever I get to the course in the springtime. I recommend this watch to anyone; you dont need to be a hardcore gym rat or marathon runner to get use out of it. I am not super athletic by any means but I have been using fitness watches for a few years now. I also like to jog/run for hobby and as job security (military member) so the fact that this watch and the app can track every aspect of my workout and improvements is amazing. If you can afford it, I think it is worth the money.

This incredible new watch from Garmin allows you to leave your phone in your pocket, or even at home. It has the functionality of the Apple & Moto Watches, but also much, much more! Lets start with the least important feature (to me), its attractiveness and comfort. Someone confused mine with a Bell & Ross (think fancy watch). It is substantial in feeling, but still light weight and unobtrusive when you play sports. The band is waterproof, and you can easily find your fit since there are narrowly spaced notches. As for functionality, it has everything you would want in a watch to track your activities. It will track your running (road, trail, track or treadmill), hiking, climbing (of course it tracks your altitude), swimming, cycling, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, rowing (indoor or outdoor), golf, and even stand up paddle boarding! Are there any other sports one would like to track their activity level??? Just leave your bulky, distracting phone at home! Also, it seamlessly connects to your smartphone and provides weather, alerts (messages, important emails, or any other alerts you set), controls your music, and can even find your phone. All those above so you dont have to pick up your phone during that meeting, movie, or any other event that requires all (ok, nothing requires all, most!) of your attention! You can even check what time it is without putting your phone in your hands and giving yourself the temptation to open it and its many treasures inside. Imagine, interacting with friends, business associates, family members as if you are giving them your fullest attention ... little do they know, about your tricky little friend, the Garmin Fenix 5x!

If you move, bike, swim, walk on the road or treadmill, run, hike, you name it, its in there, buy this; PERIOD. As someone who cycles regularly I have had a number of cycle computers and use Strava for all my rides. The amount of information you get or can get from this watch, all in one place means you need nothing else. For biking it is possible to wirelessly connect a cadence and speed sensor, the watch tracks heart rate as long as its on your wrist. Its basically a Garmin GPS so it tracks, accurately I might add, your distance, speed, average speed, peak speed and it tracks it all in splits. AND THE THING HOLDS A CHARGE FOR MORE THAN A DAY!!!! I take it off once a week at work whether it needs a charge or not, plug it in, about 30-45 min later its fully charged and ready to go. Now I may not be as active as others but thats at least a 15 mile ride or 5 mile walk every day and it still lasts at least 3-4 days. I can say with all confidence, there isnt another tracker out there that gives this much functionality with the same or more battery life. The best function of this watch, which I have yet to use is the return function. Start an activity, get lost and the watch gives you turn by turn directions back to where you started. AMAZING, in one word thats what this device is, simply amazing. YES, almost a grand is a lot for a watch but this is sooooo much more than just a watch and worth every penny, if you have the means to buy this watch and consider yourself an active person do not bother buying any other (GPS,activity tracker, sleep tracker) watch.

This is my first Fenix - I upgraded from a Forerunner 230. I primarily wanted a watch with a longer battery life that you can charge during an activity. After I bought the watch, I was disappointed to realize the Fenix 5X has a shorter battery life than the Fenix 5. (20 hrs vs 24 hrs). I am assuming it is because the Topo maps are a battery hog. I had a chance to try this watch out at a 100-mile race last weekend. I turned off a few features to extend the battery life including the HR monitor. I recharged the watch after running for 18 hours - it was at 25% battery life, so I guess it could have lasted for about 24 hours total. It did take a while to recharge. I was charging it for about 2 hours and it got up to 57% battery - note that the watch was still running during this time. The watch was very accurate - the course is measured at 101.85 miles and the watch measured 101.8. It might have just omitted the last decimal, so for all I know it could have been exactly right. The watch looks really cool and I like the feel of the buttons - they are easy to press while sweaty and are hard to press by accident. The watch is bulky, but I am getting used to it. All in all, its a great watch. As an Ultrarunner, I recommend it.

This suffers from Garminitis. Its a great piece of hardware crippled by horrible software. To make things even worse, Garmin went full-android. The few things Garmin watches actually did right (ex. continuous heart-rate graph, heart-rate range with warning, etc) now require buggy 3rd party apps. Worse, you HAVE to create a Garmin account to configure basic features. When walking, my watch randomly declares Goal like some confused toddler during a soccer game. The problem is that you cant shut this toddler up except by creating an account and configuring the feature there. Otherwise, the watch randomly decides your goal for walking (different each time) and starts screaming in glee whenever it feels like it. Every time this happens, Im reminded how much I hate Garmin and every single executive who runs it. Another great feature of this watch is that it will betray you at every possible opportunity. Want it to count steps? Sure. Except it randomly will lose track of the reset-time (ordinarily midnight). The clock-face will show the right time, but the step-count wont reset at midnight and WILL reset randomly during your walk. Buy a $20 step-counter instead. The GPS map sounds pretty handy, right? Except that its way too undetailed to be of any use, you cant upload proper maps without using Garmins awful program on windows (no linux support, of course), and youll need to carry around a 200 page manual while hiking just to figure out how to navigate the map. Which brings me to another point: this watch is about as easy to configure and use as the worst version of Windows crossed with the worlds buggiest Android implementation. There are 300 levels deep of menus for everything, no button behaves as you think it should, and few things actually do what theyre supposed to. In the name of allowing the watch to do anything, Garmin has ensured it can do nothing. Be prepared to spend full-time managing and configuring this watch to get it to maybe sort-of do what you think it should. Maybe youll even have to write your own android-app. Heck, Im surprised they even included a clock face instead of requiring a 3rd party app. Garmin should not be allowed to write software. The constitution should be amended to say this. They should just produce chips and basic hardware, release open-specs on them, and leave everything else to people who actually have brains. Other than that I love the watch. Its big, hefty, and people seem to think its expensive. Works great as a paperweight too, but I already have a bunch of other Garmin products for that.

Combining world-class performance with the best features of our fitness and outdoor watches, Fenix 5X is the premiere multisport training companion. It’s the first Fenix series watch to offer full-color TOPO U.S. mapping for at-a-glance navigation and location reference -so you can beat yesterday, and be sure of getting back. Smart notifications help you stay in touch on the go. Plus, Quick Fit bands let you tailor the look to any lifestyle or activity -no tools required. Go from workplace to work out without breaking stride. Smartphone compatibility - iPhone, Android. Memory 16 GB.
