This item is easy and fun to use. It has a variety of ways to learn and games to test your knowledge. I would recommend this product to anyone that wants to learn French for vacations and travelling.

This product starts off fairly good, it offers you a game where you have to say, recall, and pick out basic french words from a given selection. This is a good idea, except that in the later stages the process tends to test your ability to win the games rather than the french language. To graduate from the first session, you have to score 100%. The hard game consists of six cards that have pictures on them. They are then flipped over and you have to remember where each of them are. If you make one mistake, the entire 5 minute game is pointless and you have to start again. If you have two symbols that have similar sounds, there is no repeat button to hear it again so you have to guess.

I bought this because I am traveling to France for vacation.

This program isnt cohesive at all; it seems to be a bunch of programs packaged together without an overall plan. I really dont think anyone could actually learn a language from this.

I bought this product as a refresher for French learned in high school and college. It worked great for that. I popped the mp3 CD into the car stereo and finished all of the lessons before I even realized it. With the reasonably paced review, the French I once spoke came rushing back after many years of not using it. Counter to some other reviewers complaints, I had no problems with the discs in my PC and also easily copied the MP3s onto my portable player. Likewise I have my own computer headset/mic (I dont expect software to come with hardware like some of the reviewers apparently do), so had no problems there either. As to language courses in general, I learned French in the classroom and needed this product as a worthwhile review. Its well worth the money. I learned German on my own by being immersed while living in Germany and am fluent. Lesson learned: if you are serious about learning a language, get away from your computer/stereo and interact with real native speakers. This product will give you a valuable, reasonably priced intro until you can make that happen. For those not sure what to do but want to get started, I suggest you try this product first. If it works well for you, you can always go for the much more expensive Rosetta Stone after. (If youre able to pay the high cost of RS, you wont notice the little bit youve spent on Instant Immersion.) If this doesnt work for you, at least youre only out $30 instead of $500+.

I have used Rosetta Stone and this product. I agree that neither are quite what they promise, which is an EASY way to learn a language. For someone to compare this favorably to RS is highly suspicious to me. After multiple failed attempts to get this product to work on my Mac, I went to a PC laptop to actually check it out. This product compares to Rosetta Stone in the way that a fast food hamburger compares to a well-prepared steak. This is really nothing more than a mildly-interactive vocabulary list. Perhaps thats worth the money, but dont confuse it with the advanced learning procedures from Rosetta Stone. My problem with RS is that they do not show you enough direct translation vocabulary. So in that sense, this would be a nice complement to RS. The audio CDs included in this are actual lessons, thus not really helpful for drilling and memorizing. Its really not comparable to RS at all, and any comparison is incredibly unfair. They should take those claims off of their packaging. Ill be demanding a refund for the Mac incompatibility, but otherwise would make use of the money back guarantee. Save yourself the hassle.

It looks new enough but I cant get it to play on any device.

I just purchased this and tried to run it on my relatively new MacBook (Intel Core 2 Duo)
