> 3 dayI’m not a huge avatar fan. I love legos though. This is a great set for display, I’m sure for play too. I’d wait until it’s on sale to grab it. It’s Lego, so no worries about instructions, or piece quality. I have looked at the avatar sets. I think they are pretty good value compared to other themes.

> 3 dayI really liked the older Avatar sets and was excited to see them partnering with Lego to produce new sets. The kids love the taller figures as much as they do the normal sized ones. Theres a little redundancy in the two flying creatures (to be expected) but each still has its own charm and appeal once built. There are a number of new elements in this set that were only released this year, so that alone makes it a hot commodity. Any fan of the films will enjoy this set, and the kids will love swooshing around the house.

> 3 dayGreat Lego set!! It took a couple of hours to assemble, but it was very enjoyable and easy to follow the directions. I dont usually think of Legos as being pretty, but this set really is! This pairs well with the other Avatar sets, though my boys have added them in to all sorts of different scenes.

> 3 dayI got this set as a gift for my dad because he loves the avatar movie and legos. The set is very easy to complete, the bricks go together nicely and are very sturdy upon completion. I love that this set is extremely versatile and looks great upon completion.

Greater than one weekI was happily surprised when LEGO announced a series of sets based on the original Avatar film and not only for the new sequel, though those sets are now here as well. I ordered a couple of the Avatar sets, this being the second that I built. I happily rewatched the scene that this set is based on and I have to commend LEGO on recreating the joy I felt watching it. The set comes with three instruction manuals, each representing the three portions of the build. I like it when LEGO separates the instructions like this as it allows three people to have a shared build experience. In my case, my son and I worked on this set simultaneously and then swooshed the banshees around afterwards. JAKE & NEYTIRI The new Avatar minifigures have been received with some mixed feelings in the LEGO community, mostly objections related to the ears molded onto the heads and not incorporated into hairpieces like LOTR Elf/Orc minifigures. That and the presence of a printed nose that LEGO minifigures normally do not have. I dont share those concerns as I think LEGO did a great job branching out with the Navi head pieces. The use of long legs, last seen on the LEGO Woody and Jessie minifigures IIRC, is inspired since the Navi are much taller than humans. So is the use of longer arms as well. Jakes and Neytiris hairpiece has a long ponytail to represent the Navi kuru that can attach to Pandora fauna to forge a bond. In this series of sets, LEGO uses the whip piece to represent the fauna side of this relationship and they work well together. The anti-stud end of the whip simply attaches to the end of the hairpiece. That does often leave one whip piece hanging loose from the fauna but that is accurate in-universe. Overall I think all of the Navi minifigures in the Avatar sets look great and Jake and Neytiri here are no exception. THE BANSHEES Each banshee has a molded head piece with separate, movable bottom jaw. This approach will be familiar with those who have LEGO dinosaur sets, for example. The brick built bodies are a bit blocky – by modern LEGO standards – but are largely masked when the wings are installed. LEGO minifigures cant really straddle anything and even with saddle pieces they are standing. Jake and Neytiri actually lie on top of each banshee while they straddle the banshees in the film. In this set the approach works pretty well as you can see from the attached pictures. The plastic wing pieces are punched out large foil sheets. As with other winged LEGO builds, the wings are attached to ball joint pins inserted into Technic connector frames. The wings are attached using hinge pieces and can be posed for display. PANDORA FLORA & DISPLAY BASE FOR BANSHEES I really like the snippets of Pandora landscape that come with the new sets and the build for this set is no exception. I often encounter side builds in LEGO sets that seem like they are just an afterthought and serve little to enhance the build. But in this set the landscape is really a third character. The fact that it doubles as a stand for the Banshees makes it that much more interesting as well. Kudos to LEGO for incorporating this feature. Aside from traditional plant pieces, some of which are recolored from traditional green to magenta for the LEGO Movie sets, the landscape also includes new transparent support and glow in the dark pieces. A few Technic connectors are used to support both the small floating islands and the banshees. The blue support piece double as a waterfall as well. The result is very colorful and is a reasonable approximation, given how few pieces it uses, of the Pandora landscape. At one end of the landscape is a clip and at the other end a vertical bar handle. These pieces allow the landscape builds from other Avatar sets to be connected to create a long Pandora landscape. Great idea. SUMMARY Overall, this is a really great LEGO set both for play and display. Im no spring chicken but my son and I enjoy swooshing the banshees in the air. To be honest, I like the entire Avatar line of LEGO sets. As for this set, it brings to life such a wondrous and joyous scene from the original movie. The set makes excellent use of the 572 piece count that LEGO allocated to it. The minifigures are excellent and the builds look great. Adding other Avatar sets enhance the display value.
