I had an older version of this but wanted to update to the latest and greatest. When you purchase this, you receive a package with a CD and a slip of paper with a code on it. You can install off the CD, if you have an optical drive, but youll probably have to immediately update it, so just get the download to start with. Maybe it was just a bad day, but Magixs servers were painfully slow. The download took over an hour. You also have to go to a website, enter the code, and then they email you the actual license code you need. Thats an unnecessary step - but it gets worse. The email with the license code also includes codes for the Newblue packs that are included. You need to download and install them, which involves restarting Magix several times and a separate application manager to handle the expansion packs. However, they show up in the manager as trial versions. The codes that came in the email do not work in the manager to register them. Instead, you have to go into Magix Movie Studio, to the effect menu, and find the entries for each. THAT screen finally has the actual codes that you need to activate them. Once you get through all the hoops, the software works and doesnt require a monthly fee like other editors. Just allow time to get it set up.

This product may be what some are looking for, but not me. It just wasnt what I was looking for.

I installed on my new Microsoft Surface Book 3, 64 bit Windows 11 Home, Intel Core i7 CPU, RAM 32GB, GPU Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 It is a 1.2 GB download. I have 300 Mbps download speeds, but the download was throttled at the server, it took 20 minutes to download plus 10 minutes for install and configuration. Installation and registration went smooth at that point. There are some nice tutorials, click on Help-> Multimedia Community, this brings you to a webpage with several videos to help you get started. I installed some add-ons, which included demos, templates, effects, etc. The product does come with some audio files for adding to your project, you can always download your own. After all the setup and addons, I used the wizard to create a nice video merging my videos, and still pics, with transitions and music in no time. Do not try to install this on PC/laptop with older graphics cards. On my first attempt I installed this on an computer that did not have a compatible graphic card and received an error when attempting to run the software. I would think during installation, the computer specs would be checked and if not compatible, a message would appear at that point. A waste of 30 minutes. The support FAQs confirmed the error.

This software is very easy to use for editing video. It is a cheap alternative to premiere pro if you do not need all the bells and whistles that come along with Adobe. You can definitely edit video good enough for social media or small projects. It took a bit, trying to get used to this layout after being so accustomed to other editing programs, but if this is your first video editing software then it should be a breeze to learn as there is no muscle memory. I have used Magix a very long time ago, like 2004 and the software has come a long way since then as mpeg2 was the best back then. So this software is great for beginners and those just needing a cost efficient way to get into editing.

My husband who is pretty good at this kind of thing is having an issue getting it installed. He is going to work on it again this weekend and I will update my review on how that goes

Had my computer savvy son install it for me & he had no problems. Since this is my 1st video editing software experience it did have a learning curve for me. I love that now I can take my content and add music to it & create such amazing videos. Very happy.

I wish I could say otherwise, but this software feels incredibly outdated compared to other versions of video editing software that I have either paid for or downloaded for free. I had a hard time navigating the software itself. Nothing about it felt intuitive, and it was even hard to find any good tutorials for it online. It is incredibly hard to figure out how to apply the effects, and once you do, it affects the whole video. In order to apply it to certain parts (say for example you wanted to use lens flare) you need to cut your video where you want to apply it, and then make sure it only applies to that clip. You have to be careful about playing with the toggles as well, because if you arent paying attention to what youre doing it will ruin that entire portion of the clip, and sometimes the program wont let you undo an action, claiming that an undo is not possible. You can learn the keyboard shortcuts quite easily if you play around with the menus and make note of them, but again, this information isnt just readily available which made me feel like I wasted a lot of time editing manually (if youre going to edit videos for a living or as a side hustle its incredibly important not to waste time and to learn or implement your own shortcuts). This program might be good for beginners, or for kids working on projects for school - but I dont know that I would recommend this for anyone else.

Ive used a number of video editing programs over the last several years. This one has good instructions and tutorials but is pretty intuitive so its learning curve is not too steep. Installation can be done via a accompanying DVD or through a downloadable .exe. I opted for the former method, using a USB-C external DVD drive I keep handy to pair with the laptop I use for such projects. Note that this software will perform at its most optimum when used on a device with sufficient ram and other internal specs. The software has a a considerable variety of features able to give all kinds of effects. Video editing software can be quite expensive so retail price of this one is an exceptional bargain and should count as one of its most important features. Beginners in particular should give this really close consideration due to its ease of use.

I generally only edit video as a hobby for my personal use, mostly home video. As such, I dont have the need or budget for very expensive video editing options. I have used Adobe Premier Pro which is an excellent program with great features, but unfortunately its subscription based. If you only have a limited time to work on your videos here and there it can take a long time and those subscription fees can really add up. For me Adobe Premier Pro is only viable if I know I can finish up the video in less than a month in which case its possible that its worth paying for 1 month of access to finish the video, but it still adds up if you have to do multiple videos over the course of a few years and every time you pay for one month of access. My next favorite editor is Cyberlinks Power Director which is a perpetual license (though they do offer a 365 subscription version too). The upfront cost is a bit pricey but offer many of the same advanced features of Adobe Premier Pro. Its not quite as intuitive or easy to use as Adobes software, but there are many tutorials and help files both in-app and on-line. The program is a powerful editing tool and is appropriately priced. Ive also tried a number of free versions of other video editors. Many higher end video editor offer a free version that gives access to more basic features while locking the more advanced ones behind subscriptions or perpetual licenses that will cost you significantly more money. This program is somewhere between the free versions of other editors and Cyberlink Power Director. It comes at a much lower price point half the price of Cyberlinks lower priced editor. It is a perpetual license so you dont have to worry about subscriptions and will always be able to use it as long as your machine meets the minimum requirements (which are actually pretty low). Most video editors have some similar features and UI setups, but all of them require a little time to learn their specifics and differences. This UI is no different, if you want to use it properly youll need to spend some time learning it. Unfortunately there are far fewer tutorials and help and I found the UI to be less intuitive than most programs Ive used. Feature-wise this is a pretty robust program offering a lot more advanced features than most of the free editors, but you wont get all the features you would in Adobe or Cyberlinks editors. One thing that makes this not as good for me is that your output options are far more limited than Adobe or Cyberlink. Its basic formats only. This program does seem to take a very long time to download and install, plan on the process taking about half an hour. I didnt have any problems while using the program, it ran smoothly and I didnt encounter any errors or glitches. However, I do recommend making frequent and multiple saves of videos and cut video files because the undo option is sometimes not able to undo certain actions and you may need to scrap it and start working with the clip again from a previous point. You will need to clip videos into smaller segments to apply multiple effects and edits to specific parts as opposed to the whole video which is a little annoying but workable. To me this is a happy medium for beginners to get into editing with some more robust features if they are willing to put in the time to learn the program and dont need to save in or handle lots of video formats. Its good for those who want to have a perpetual license as opposed to a subscription as well. Its also good in terms of features vs cost and if a much lower price point than most editors offering as many editing features as this does.

I am not a content creator but rather just someone who likes to save vacation photos and video in an easy to watch format. Been messing around with varying stitching programs for years for MP4s and did not realize Magix made this program until a few days ago. I have previously been using an Magix photostory 7 for putting photos into a video slideshow that we can stream to our TVs or phones from our NAS. As we are getting ready to go on a cruise for a milestone anniversary, I wanted to get an updated version of that program. That is where I saw this one for video. It is pretty much the same interface with some video editing tools and it was cheap enough to give it a try. Just made a couple of quick clips from some test videos and it was pretty simple to work with. Got this and photostory 2023 the complete versions and both are very similar to work with.
