MFJ Enterprises Original MFJ-913 Balun 4:1 Current 300 Watts

> 24 hourI purchased this for an off center fed dipole project. This is a new antenna type for me so there was lots of experimentation, climbing ladders, changing leg lengths, etc. - all the normal new antenna stuff. Today, while doing soME more experimentation, one of the leads has become completely disconnected internally. My antenna legs were always connected to the eye bolts on each side so there was never any direct strain placed on the leads. Id have expected there to be some sort of internal strain relief so that this couldnt happen. Completely worthless to me now. Dont have the packaging so dont think Amazon will take it for return. EDIT: Contacted MFJ directly and they are replacing the balun. So, good review for customer service from them but Im leaving 2 stars because the balun did break after only about 2 weeks of use.

> 24 hourUsed this to build an OCF dipole. 90 feet one way and 45 feet the other way. Hooked to my tuner, I can tune 10 meters to 80 meters with no problems. Works fine on 100 watts SSB. Farthest Ive talked is Russia - 8000 miles away.

> 24 hourMatching 450 ohm ladder line into a short length of coax for use with an auto tuner. Works great with a 160 meter dipole. Should have done this years ago.

> 24 hourCouldnt figure out why my OCF 80 meter dipole wasnt working. So I decided to change the balun, cant figure out why I had to, the old one was only 25+ years old. ( think I can get a refund?.....HI HI!) I put the mfj-913 in line....WOW! No tuner required for 80, 40 or 20 meters...Can now tune 160 through 10 meters!

> 24 hourWhen the balun arrived, it rattled inside. Disassembly showed that 2 nuts and a washer were floating loose inside. Actually trying to use this balun could have been disastrous. I will repair it just because as an electronic tech, thats what I do, and I enjoy the challenge. Basically, for most folks... buyer beware!
