Every time I close it, it reads -0.01mm If I move it in mid air it goes back to zero. Or if I slightly tap it against something. Sometimes it goes to zero all by itself... This makes me cringe, will it go back? Will it stay?? Randomness.... It is exactly the opposite of what I want. Is it significant? No But it feels anoying There is no way around it. I have zeroed it many times. By doing a long press to zero to absolute. Everything else works and feels quality.

Its already a given that Mitutoyo is of the highest quality right alongside Starrett. So much so that the USA is getting flooded with overseas knock offs of the Mitutoyo Calipers. Amazon and a few other reputable Mitutoyo sellers are your safest place to buy them. But steer clear of eBay! There is about a dozen YouTube videos as of this writing, that can help you to verify if yours is genuine I was happy to determine that the one I purchased here on Amazon is indeed Authentic. Be careful out there, otherwise you could end up paying well over $100 dollars for a $10 dollar knock off.

Between these and Sterrett brand you cant go wrong. These are legit and not clones or copies. I got them for the ease of measuring Imperial and Metric. They are super accurate and work great.

I have to trust measurements and after working with these for a while now I do. It hurt a bit to pay the price but no regrets!

This things amazing! Need a precision measurement tool? Want to buy something made in Japan with love by people who care about making a nice thing actually really really nice! ‽ This is the thing for you! Sure it’s a bit more expensive than the cheapy trash ones but you will definitely have this for a long time and know that you are measuring with confidence!!! 100/10 recommend.

The only negative about these I am noticing right now is the surface finish and burrs on a few of the non-critical surfaces. They measure fine, but I was slightly disappointed in the fit and finish of those few areas. The other Mitutoyo calipers Ive used havent been like this. Its not a big deal, but it is there.

This caliper is well worth the money. I had some other brands, but they never last. You can not go wrong with Mitutoyo.

Seems to be a quality set of calipers, only like the Japanese could pull off. Mine came with the battery that is stamped Japan and the writing on the back is white. Watch out for China ones with whiteish lettering on the back and a cheapo battery.

The difference between Mitutoyo and the cheap knockoffs are readily apparent the 1st time you use them. These are smooth and accurate and the fit and finish are very nice. They are pricey but you are paying for precision.

does what it is designed for with absolute precision...

The Mitutoyo 500-196-30 digital caliper has a 0 to 6" (0 to 150mm) measuring range with 0.0005" (0.01mm) increments for precision and an advanced onsite sensor (AOS) electromagnetic inductive sensor for resistance to dirt, oil, and water. Its digital readout LCD shows inch or metric units for versatility, and allows either absolute or incremental measurement readings. The electronic caliper measures inside, outside, depth, and step values for versatility and includes a protective case and SR44 silver oxide battery.

Digital calipers are measuring instruments commonly used for inspection in manufacturing to provide the precise measurements of an object. A pair of jaws attached to a long beam with a marked scale is used to take inside, outside, and step measurements. An additional depth probe slides along the beam to take depth measurements. One jaw is fixed to the end of the scale, while the other jaw slides along it with gearless precision to take measurements. The reading is electronically generated and displayed on a digital, high-resolution screen as a single value. Digital calipers can take differential measurements, which are used to determine the difference in measurements between two objects, by zeroing the display at any point along the scale. Some digital calipers can switch between standard and metric units, and some can output readings to a computer or printer for recording measurements. Compared to dial calipers, digital calipers provide measurements that are faster, easier, and more error-free, but they are more fragile mechanically and electronically, and do not resist coolant well. Vernier calipers are more durable than digital calipers because they do not have internal moving parts, but they can be more difficult to read. Digital calipers are commonly used in fields such as metalworking, mechanical engineering, machining, carpentry, and medicine.

Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and related systems. The company, founded in Tokyo in 1934, formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963 with headquarters in Aurora, IL.
