If there were two cornerstones of my life growing up, it was Nerf blasters and Halo. One of my longtime childhood fantasies was a Nerf Needler. Of all the crazy sci-fi weapons we wished we could have as a foam firing toys, the infamous bringer of pink mist was my pick. Ultimately it never happened during that time (BOOM Cos Needler was fun, but definitely didnt nail the looks), and eventually I grew out of the hobby scene in general. Yet, when I found out Hasbro was going to make a game-accurate, functioning replica of the Needler, I was chomping at the bit to get it. I think they knocked it out of the park. The blaster itself looks fantastic. Its almost identical in appearance to the Needler from Halo: Reach through Infinite. Almost all of the fine details are visible. The blaster itself is weighty and feels very sturdy. Whats nice is that all the protruding elements of the gun, like the fins on the bottom and the needles themselves are made of a flexible material so they wont break if you bump into them or drop the blaster. The lighting effects are also great looking. The LEDs are bright and the blaster has a neat feature of sequentially turning off the needles as you fire off darts, mimicking the games behavior. You reload the needles by flipping open and shut the cylinder door on the left side of the blaster. It also shoots surprisingly well, better than Id expect for a blaster that seemingly values looks over performance. Its a fully automatic electric plunger with a 10-dart cylinder, similar to the old Dart Tag Speedswarm. This was a pleasant surprise considering most new Nerf blasters have totally ditched this type of firing mechanism for flywheels. Im not going to bother range testing it, but it fires hard and darts fly out to ranges that Id expect of most new Elite type blasters. It isnt the most consistent or accurate though, but thats to be expected of a blaster firing Elite darts out of barrels this short. Heavier darts and Id say you can stay on target pretty well with this thing. I do have some minor gripes though. Even though the colors are dead on, I wish they gave the gun a more metallic sheen like it has in game. Its also an ergonomic nightmare. The grip is horrid and its a pain to reload thanks to the giant muzzle that covers most of the cylinder. That said, its worth noting that this blaster basically eschews all practically in favor of being as accurate to the game model as realistically possible. Its not something youre going to want to play a round of HvZ with (or whatever people play these days). Its also a bit expensive, but I guess if you really want this thing then the price shouldnt be too big of an issue. Overall Im really happy with this Needler. Its definitely a childhood dream come true and Im glad its as good as it is.

Finally the needler shipped and delivered. In game content seems to be a name plate, featuring the nerf needler. On to the unit itself, well made seems detailed. Doesn’t feel cheap. The bottom has a battery door for 6xAA batteries. Display mode is very cool, has a touch sensor under the trigger that when touched lights up everything, and turns off two hours later. Display stand is fine, maybe a little flimsy but does the job. Looks great on my shelf and is a must have for any halo fan.

Lights and paintjob are very cool, the needles pulse slowly. Demo mode automatically turns off after a while but will turn back on as soon as you grip the handle, which is good for display purposes. About as accurate as any other nerf gun. Doesnt make the needler sounds, just normal nerf electronic gun sounds.

Just buy it. Youre already here looking at it, why pretend? The needles are soft so you dont poke your eye out or break them when they drop. The texture of the gun is fantastic, as is the texture of the needles. The lights pulse as they glow, although some needler sound effects would be amazing. But this is a toy that happens to be an amazing prop replica, so it wont do to expect more than was given. If you missed out on the NECA needler, this is the next best option for a quarter of the price. Also, the dart function works really well!

The quality of this blaster is outstanding and the packaging is just as impressive. The stand it comes with is a bit lackluster compared to the blaster but overall well worth the asking price. Theres an added dlc bonus that gives the nerf needler nameplate. If you have an older kid or adult in your life that loves Halo this will no doubt be the highlight of thier Holiday haul.

When I received the package, it looked like the box was thrown around a bit. My fiance opened up the box and found that the stand to the gun was missing and the darts were smashed. Other than that, the gun looks pretty cool. Not really giftable if its missing pieces or unable to use the darts because of the damage done to them.
