> 3 dayVery happy I decided to go with the Silicon Power A80 instead of the usual Western Digital or Seagate. Its a very high quality portable HDD and though I havent tested (nor want to) the water resistant/shockproof casing it seems very sturdy and has a very nice fit and finish. It is also surprisingly thin for being so protective. I love how it comes with a very small USB cable that tucks away for portability as well as a full cable for home use. The speeds have been very good for being USB 3.0 powered, no extra cables needed just one USB. Works smooth and quick on my brand new intel i7 Macbook Pro 13 which has USB 3.0 ports. So far I am very impressed with this product and its overall a great value for your money if your looking for a 1 TB portable drive.

> 3 dayWell...I dont know if I can officially call it an upgrade, being that I own a few Seagate drives and have never had a problem with any of them. But this drive is neck and neck with my Seagates. I love the color. Its the same color as my old motorcycle. Looks great along side a Macbook (which also was the same color of my bike....ok....ill stop now.) I was worried this drive would be a bit too heft because of the added real estate for the additional hidden wire, but it really is not a problem. And its also not as thick as I thought it was going to be. It is still bigger than my GoFlex, but since it has about 650 more GB than my GoFlex, I wont complain. Also, the hidden wire seems to stick out a little bit. I can never seem to get it fully hidden in the wire storage area, but its not enough to be annoying. I am very careful with my electronics, so I dont plan on dropping or spilling anything on it, so I didnt really care so much for the military specs. More so than anything, I needed a 1TB drive that was small, and I loved the fact that it had the integrated wire that can be stored. I was going to go with the

> 3 dayThis hard drive looks decent, like the pictures. It is a bit heavy, which is to be expected from a rugged hard drive. The first one I received only showed up about half of the time when plugged into a USB port. I thought that it was a driver problem, but I tried it on 3 different PCs after installing the driver, and it showed up more and more infrequently. Finally after a month it stopped showing up at all, which was just beyond the amazon return period, unfortunately. I was able to receive an RMA number from the companys website, and I mailed the defective unit to Hong Kong (which cost about $12). About 2 weeks later I received a new (or refurbished?) drive, which seems to work well after the first couple of weeks. I was impressed that the company replaced the defective product with a reasonable effort on my part.

> 3 dayThis is a great hardened USB drive! I have not bought 3 of them, one for my wife (who was overseas when her other name-brand external HDD failed), one for my daughter (who will be going overseas) and one for myself, to replace a drive that I somehow misplaced (huh?) The form factor is great, with the USB port plugged with a rubber stopper to keep dirt and water out, and best of all, a small cable that is stored in the side of the case itself! How handy! The mil-spec rating seems to be holding so far, as I have not had any issues with any of the drives. I have not benchmarked them, but with USB 3.0 (connected to a 3.0 port, of course), it seems pretty quick, at least twice as fast as my USB 2.0 WD drive, and faster than my WD USB 3.0 drive.

> 3 dayIve had two Silicon Power 1tb drives in service for nearly a year and a 750gb for considerably longer than that. They work. Ive never heard a trace of noise from any of them, and they sit about two feet from my ears. Unfortunately, I dont have room to situate them all with plenty of air around them, but they dont run hot. I keep a large music library on one of the 1tb drives, so it gets plenty of use. But information has a way of expanding to fill the available space (doesnt it?) so Im now looking for a 2tb drive. Id buy this A80 drive in a heartbeat, if it were available. But, SP to the rescue: their Rugged Armor A60 does come in a 2tb model, so my search is over before its hardly begun. Btw, I see that almost every drive reviewed on Amazon has its detractors, even this one. None of these devises is bullet proof, and none will last forever. But SPs performance in my system has been flawless for long enough to convince me to keep keep going with what works.

> 3 dayThough I cant vouch for longevity (yet), in every other way I really love this drive. The cables that come with it are shielded, it copied all the data I had for it very quickly for a drive of its size, and it offered me no difficulties even though I used it with both a Mac and a Win7 machine. This is my new bug out drive, and its better in every way than the one it replaces, which is no slouch; its served me well these six years. I especially like the fact that it carries an extra cable right in the drive, so that it can just be grabbed and put in a pocket in a second or so. This drive comes fat-formatted so it wont take large files over 5GB, but it works with Win7 and MacOS Mavericks & Lion right out of the box, which is why I didnt change the format at all. Im sure it works with Mountain Lion, Snow Leopard, Win8 and XP too, but I didnt try any of those, so I cant verify the fact from my own experience. The price seems excellent for what you get. Highly recommended.

> 3 dayI needed a portable external hard drive to keep several virtual machines on that I could use in more than one location. I went with the Silicon Power Rugged Armor A80 because its USB 3.0 and 2.0 compatible and because as well as being shock resistant, its water resistant too. Ive used this drive daily now for several months and couldnt be happier with its performance. Its faster than most external drives when using USB 2.0, and blows everything else away when using USB 3.0. I havent had time to do a benchmark test on it, but when I finish a task 10 minutes sooner than the guy next to me doing the same thing, I figure thats all the proof I need. If I could give this thing 6 stars I would. Two weeks after purchasing it my three year old spilled his apple juice on it while it was plugged into my home computer. I unplugged it immediately and cringed. Then I remembered that it was water resistant. So figuring I might as well really test it out, I rinsed it off in the kitchen sink and dried it off with a towel before plugging it back into the computer. To my great relief it started up without a problem. I would definitely not hesitate to recommend this drive to anyone in need of one. And I know my next external drive will be from Silicon Power.

> 3 dayThere is only one word that comes to mind every time that I see this hard drive, Indestructible. The entire shell is one piece of thick aluminum, which has superior strength against drops, freezing, heat, and water. The port has a durable rubber flap that is a little wider than the port so that that stays snugly closed, which can make it a little difficult to open especially if you dont have fingernails. The side panels also have a thick rubber seal around them; I am sure it will have no problem taking a dip as long as you dont go scuba diving with it. Since it is aluminum it disperses heat and cold around the hard drive instead of through, also the aluminum can withstand a drop from around 6 feet safely, any more and you take a risk, but there should not be any problems from higher. Inside the tough outer case there are rubber/foam shock bumpers around the hard drive on all sides that shift and lessen the shock of a drop. The hard drive itself is a disk/platter type; what is different in this one from the one in your laptop is that when you safely disconnect it from a computer the disk reader and disks lock themselves automatically so that they do not move and cause damage when shock is experienced. The maker of the hard drive is Samsung, but may change from year to year as some other reviewers have stated. It comes formatted in FAT32 and will need to be formatted in NTFS if you plan on storing files bigger than 4GB. System tool work relatively well and can be downloaded for free from their website. Overall this hard drive is one that will surely last you for years to come and can be counted on no matter what life or the environment throws at you,
