Susan Bates 12106-B 1 5-1/2-Inch Silvalume Aluminum Crochet Hook, 2.25mm, Silver Green

I have been looking for size L and M aluminum crochet hooks forever. These are okay, but I have never found the Susan Bates hooks easy to use. Since Boye doesnt seem to have those sizes in aluminum, these will have to do. They arent bad, its all in what youre used to and Ive used Boye for years. Susan Bates hooks have a more rounded end and sometimes its hard to get through the existing stitches.

I needed a 9mm hook for bulky yarn and saw this one at a great price with excellent reviews...so no brainer, I bought it. Ive never used this type before and have to say that unfortunately, I hate it! I dont get the rave reviews at all. Yes, its very lightweight and thats why I didnt give it just one star. Production quality seems great, its the design I cant stand. Whats with the ridge on the shaft under the hook? All my yarn gets stuck there and I have to use my fingers to move it along. Thats if I can get it out of the hooks extreme angle. Nothing flows. Im having better luck using my 8mm size from my old set and just crocheting loosely. Not what I wanted to do but I just cant use this new one at all. Maybe Ill practice with it later when Im less frustrated but more than likely itll just end up being a backscratcher or something. Waste of money and now I have to find a replacement. Boo!

I bought two of these hooks recently because the price was so good. I needed to replace a plastic hook I had bought previously and lost. It is a great alternative to the plastic hook and I think I almost like the aluminum better. It is very comfortable to crochet with this hook. I recently made a baby blanket with it and it came out great.
