> 3 dayCore functionality: Retains all of the functionality of previous 84-series USB micro cable included for charging and digital link (for adding and viewing programs, exporting and importing data sets etc) COLOR SCREEN! This is the big one. Aside from being a massive aesthetic improvement, this really makes multi-function graphs easier to work with. The screen has adjustable brightness and at its max setting is more than bright enough for any indoor use. This screen works perfect in dark or dim areas without having to be constantly turning and tilting the calculator to get the right viewing angle like the old LCDs User-friendly(er) functions. I believe TI calls this math-print, meaning it has graphical symbols that make it more obvious where to input the argument to functions. At first I was underwhelmed by this idea, but having used it quite a bit now with summation, integral and derivative functions, I have come around to the opinion that it is quite a nice enhancement. Rechargeable battery via USB cable. Thinner, lighter, more modern appearance. I was honestly a bit disappointed that it was not faster at plotting than it is, but it is a significant improvement over the older models. It also does not add anything in the way of symbolic evaluation of expressions, so dont think you are going to use it to find all your integrals and derivatives. However, it does compute them numerically, which you can use to validate any solution you find through your own symbolic evaluation. If you are going into STEM career, you are going to need a graphing calculator. By the time you graduate you will know this calculator like the back of your hand. Although its really not an earth-shattering improvement over a calculator you could pick up for 30 bucks at your local pawn shop, the small things make a big difference when you are talking about something you use that much.

Greater than one weekMy old ti-84 plus silver edition died a few weeks ago (RIP), after 10ish years of heavy use. Despite my TI-83 and TI-89, I found myself really missing it for the more basic calculations I have to do for my engineering classes (statics, physics 2, DifEq). I eventually broke down and bought this, and I am so grateful that I did, I love this thing! It has all of the things I missed about my old one, including the periodic table app that helped me through both high school and college chem, and the sci-tools app with its unit converter and sigfig checker, which can be invaluable when you are doing physics homework and bad at memorizing things like conversion factors. This is one of the best investments I have made for my education. It is basically identical to my old one, except in the things they tweaked to make it easier to use. It is so much lighter and slimmer! The display is great too! (it has adjustable brightness), and the chargeable battery is handy.

Greater than one weekThis calculator was a game changer. I highly recommend if taking algebra or higher. It can be hard to use at first if you don’t know how to use it. I recommend watching YouTube videos to really learn all of the functions. It is very used and was a game changer for me. Couldn’t have done as well in my math class without it.

Greater than one weekWe purchased this calculator for our daughter who is a freshman in college. She has been using it for the past 6 months after using an older model TI for the entire time she was in high school. She swears by this calculator and its ease of use, and ability to quickly come up to speed with its different functions and controls. She says this is the best calculator shes ever used. It was pricey- but if she makes an A in the class- its worth it! She also loves the purple color and the easy-to-read screen!

> 3 dayMy wife owned an older version of this calculator which she used for several decades. She loved that calculator and it worked well and was easy to use, until it died. So after looking at many different options and reading reviews, I took a chance on this calculator. Overall, she loves it. The color backlit display is very nice (nicer than her older calculator) and the keys work well. So overall she’s very happy with it .. with one exception. It looks like TI may have built “planned obsolescence” into this calculator. Her old calculator took 4 AA batteries that lasted a very long time. When those died, she just replaced them. With this new calculator, she has to charge it. She uses it for her work which involves a lot of math. With her old calculator she would got get several years out of a set of batteries. With this new calculator, she had to recharge it after just one project. She’s concerned that just like all rechargeable batteries, they’ll end up dying in a few years and then we’ll have to purchase another calculator simply because the rechargeable batteries died. Only time will tell.
