The Grudge

Dont worry that it was released in 2004. I didnt watch it until around 2009 and then several times since and its still pretty scary. What heightens the anxiety in the film is a thing of malevolence and its imprint on a house and all who have crossed its thresh hold. The other thing is the house is at the end of a street, but not really off the beaten path except that its tucked near a walled pedestrian/ roadway that creates a visually isolated feeling from whatever other houses there are. You dont see them but occasionally hear a dog bark. The home is a Japanese home but from the instant you see it, it feels restrictive and not flowing...and I think its why the minute the viewer steps inside, they sense something is off. Once out of the common area downstairs everything is highly minimized, dark, dreary and oppressive. Downstairs isnt much better but there are shoji styled Japanese doors that open to the outside and in one brief scene Gellar is outside hanging laundry and also sponge bathing the elderly resident who lives there in the fresh air. You have a momentary reprieve from all that is soon to follow and it comes pretty quick. The direction of the film is excellent and done in a way to optimize each little impact. They start by your witnessing one event, that has actually taken place 3 years earlier, then move to another happening at present. You dont know this until more background info is being shared by certain people involved. People who seem to have little involvement at all, and who are not main characters (ie., the rental agent) where youre are left to wonder what became of him, or the partner detective or others such as the EMT workers who actually also entered the house at one time or another. However the story doesnt really focus or follow them -- it remains focused on 2 families, and certain number of outsiders who also end up crossing paths with them. I wont give away with too many detail...But there are some very scary scenes. One is where the sister of the second family whos just moved in and who actually lives on her own and has her own apartment elsewhere and what happens within those scenes.. Again, creepy and the end result is a horror story that doesnt try too hard to make sense of anything other than all of this began with one very awful event which is rooted in the psychological and physical actions of one tormented evil person. If evil can possess a thing long after an event occurs, the message is that relatively innocent yet NON random people arent safe. Not even when they are no longer in the place where that event took place....

This was the American version of the Japanese horror flick Ju-On. It took that story and just threw in a bunch of white people from America who got caught up in a cursed house in Japan. Thus you have the same creepy looking kid in the house and the woman with the hair haunting and killing people. Have to say despite those two iconic figures the movie is just okay. I never felt it got scary. The best part is when fingers appear in the back of Sarah Michelle Gellar. Overall I don’t think this movie has aged well and has lost a lot of its aura for me.

If you like scary films, this is your kinda movie. I like the terror factor, no gory scenes, just people being scared by ghostly figures in the night.

First I just want to say I think the movie is OK but I think Ju-on(The Japanese Original) is better and anyone who likes The Grudge has to check it out. As for the product itself, it is pretty awesome, when you open the case it has a picture on the inside of the cover which I have not seen a lot of lately so it was nice to see this again. The Blu-ray has one disc that includes both Theatrical and Unrated versions but trust me when I say you are going to want to watch the unrated version, its sooooo much better. The Main Menu is nice and has many special features including 2 Ju-on short films called 4444444444 and In a Corner, if you are a big Ju-on fan you will know what these are but if not, they are pretty much scenes that explain what happened to certain characters in the Original made for TV Ju-on film Ju-on: The Curse. Anyway, it was nice to see those short films on here because I think they are really good. The only reason I didnt give this 5 stars was because there was a little dent on the front of the case which I dont really like because It looks pretty bad but I will probably just get a replacement case. All in all, I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend.

One of the best horror movies.

WOW WHAT A MOVIE SAM RAIMI IS THE KING OF HORROR FILM MAKING , WHAT TALENT FROM SUCH A EARLY AGE GOING BACK TO BOOK OF THE DEAD ,OR MORE KNOWN AS EVIL DEAD THIS FILM THE GRUDGE WILL MAKE YOU JUMP SO HIGH OR YOU WILL BE RUNNING TO THE BATHROOM FROM ITS FREIGHTS WHAT A LEGEND RAIMI IS AND HIS CREW THAT PUT THESE FILMS TOGETHER SO I HIGHLY RECOMEND IF YOU WANT A TOTAL FREAK OUT FILM WATCH THIS FILM IN THIS EDITION ENJOY MOVIE FAN JOHN FROM SUUNY QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA

Just didn’t make sense to me

Pretty good horror flick. Not as eerie as I would have liked, but still creepy enough. The girl is so computer animated looking that shes just not nearly as scary as she could have been. However, the acting and directing are decent and its good enough to watch. Great price, arrives on time and in good condition.

So scare, very wow.
