Greater than one weekRecieved in the mail quickly and the scanner works well. Sound quality of the radio is good. It is however a bit tedious programing the scanner via the menus but have downloaded the radio reference free software and the scanner is now up and running with all of my local frequencies. I am getting good reception from PDs 30 miles from my home with the stock antenna. I am however going to give this product four stars, not because the radio lacks quality but because I did not recieve the mounting hardware. Am planning to mount this scanner in my vehicle but the package seems to be missing the twist nuts for the mount and mounting screws. It wont be hard to drive down to my local hardware store to pick up to screws that will work, but at the price point of 350, it is disappointing not to have recieve the radio with all of its intended contents.

> 3 dayHave owned this for 2 years, still happy with product. Only complaint is a small one - it was a little difficult to program originally and had a little trouble with reception but I believe this is due to living in a rural area. We just had to find the best spot in the house to position it for the best reception. Now, it works perfectly and we pick up everything.

> 3 dayI have 40+ years experience using programmable scanners and I found this to be difficult at first. The user manual could be much better. Dont try to program from the front panel, almost impossible, use a programming software to program. The scanner preforms better than I expected, picks up distant signals good. Over all, I recommend this as a scanner for someone that has experience with programming trunking systems. If you are just starting out in scanning this could be difficult for you to use and learn.

> 3 dayProbably not the best selection for my first digital scanner. Its not easy to program, I ended up paying for a subscription to radio reference. Anothing thing I wish I thought about before buying. At the time I bought this I pay 383.00 then realized that then gps is vitial in my situation. Another 100 bucks there. Hindsight I should have bought a newer model with gps built in and the radio pee programmed. Dont get me wrong, it seems like a solid radio.

> 3 dayIve owned two homepatrols and had reception trouble with both. I thought the home patrol would be easier to program. It is not! The preprogrammed part loads hundreds of unwanted frequencies. The software that comes with it is so confusing to use its crazy! But on to the B996P2. This scanner has great reception with included antenna. Between Radio reference and freescan, programming it was a breeze. Just watch some YouTube videos to get familiar with freescan. And its highly suggested to pay for at least 6 months of radio reference to obtain the correct frequencies in the order and format that the scanner requires its $15. Well well worth the money! The people who give bad reviews of this scanner have no patience or interest in learning a few things. My only gripe is updating the firmware and installing the drivers. I had trouble with it but maybe I was doing something wrong? I dont think so but maybe. It might be a USB 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 compatibility issue. Once that was completed the rest was easy.

Greater than one weekIts a good scanner but I wasnt able to get it programmed so I returned it. Check around your area to see if anyone you know can help you if you have a problem like I did. Its not the scanners fault that I couldnt figure it out. The WX channel came in loud and clear. :) This was the best price that I could find.

> 3 dayWhile this scanner is not the most complex thing ever designed it does take time to understand and learn. Uniden has made a poor job trying to make sense of the terminology that this scanner uses, but once you trial and error you’ll understand it. My recommendation is to use RadioReference for information about scanners as well as this one. My last point is to avoid Priority Mode unless you actually know what it’s purpose is, and colour code your frequencies if you use a lot.

> 3 dayThis is a very difficult scanner to program by hand (especially trunking) (TGIDS) without using a computer and you MUST use FreeScan software, but once it is set up, WOW! It is made very well with all metal casing and great sensitivity and audio. Just go onto YouTube and watch the videos showing how to use it and its features and benefits. Ill probably buy a Uniden external speaker even though it is being used as a base scanner as the only downfall is the speaker is underneath it. You can change the display colors, make it a red color for your most important frequency and MUCH more so read up on it prior to purchasing. Also, you can adjust the Digital P25 Threshold/P25 LP Filter in the menu settings. The Chicago Tribute had an article on this stating that the Bearcat BCD996P2 is the BEST scanner Uniden America Corporation has EVER manufactured! If anyone needs any help setting this up, or buying advise, please feel free to contact me here.

> 3 dayYou definitely need a programming cable and free program software to get all you want....
