> 3 dayExcellent performance on most systems even with the small, cheap antenna that comes with it. I can receive many transmissions from dozens of miles away and in my basement. Programming with software is a must, a subscription to radioreference and programming software will get you running very quickly. Very satisfied with this radio even though I havent completely mastered using it. Using it is difficult to understand at first so if you want a simple scanner (if such a thing exists) get something else...otherwise its probably the best mobile scanner you can buy.

21-11-2024I basically had to use 3rd party software to program this. I primarily got it to listen to local fire depts. It does have a tone-out feature, but I didnt find that feature particularly impressive or useful since it is basically necessary to sit on the main dispatch frequency (rather than scanning multiple frequencies). So, I was basically forced to either use it on only one frequency, or give up the tone-out feature to make use of the scanner as a scanner. Additionally, my attempts at contacting customer service/tech support were a waste of time. They did respond to my initial email telling me theyd get back to me with an answer, which they never did. Even more than a month later, I still have not received any follow-up from them about my issue. Ultimately, I returned the item for a refund. Its just too pricey and hard to program for its own good.

> 3 dayThis scanner is great. Its easy to program once you figure out, without any help from the manufacturer, that you need to use a windows 7 computer and not windows 10 to program it if you want to use pc software to do it. You can program this scanner from the unit itself if you really want to. Its one of the easier scanners Ive programmed for conventional anyways. I havent had a chance to try out the trunking of p25 capabilities yet as my area is building out their p25 p2 network at the moment.

> 3 dayThank you to Police Scanner Outlet first. I thought this was a fair price. I found it is a great price. I like this radio better than the ones with all the WIFI and SD card stuff. I had the BCD396xt and the BCD996xt and now I have the BCD996P2. It is running well. Our tower just changed to Phase 2. MPSCS So Im ready. The 996xt, 396xt, and 996P2 are very good radios. I compare them to the tip line. I also have RS651, PSR600, RS106 and others to compare them to. I had all I needed to start off running from Police-SCANNER-outlet. Get yours next. Thanks PSO. Oh Im a ham radio op. and I know the radios that get what I want to hear...New Radio Is Top Right

> 3 dayBought for the Schenectady NY area because Fire/EMS moved to the new P25 Phase II system. This thing is terrible to program, and just doesnt work consistently with the simulcast system in the Schenectady area.

> 3 dayLove this scanner. Havent had one for a while but since I retired I decided jump back in. I didnt even attempt to program it manually. I used the FreeScan software from the Radioreference.com site and it worked perfectly. Was up and running in less than a half hour.
